Sotetsu Hotels The Splaisir Seoul Dongdaemun
Your Seoul Retreat
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first walked into Sotetsu Hotels The Splaisir Seoul Dongdaemun – the name alone is quite a mouthful – but this place actually surprised me in all the right ways. You know what struck me first? The lobby has this really clean, modern Japanese aesthetic that somehow doesn’t feel cold or sterile. I mean, Sotetsu is a Japanese chain, so they’ve brought that attention to detail you’d expect, but they’ve adapted it perfectly for Seoul.
The location is honestly fantastic if you’re into shopping or just want to experience the energy of Dongdaemun. You’re literally walking distance from all those massive wholesale markets and fashion plazas that stay open ridiculously late – I’m talking 5 AM late. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: despite being right in the thick of it all, the hotel is tucked away just enough that you don’t get hammered by street noise at night. The rooms face different directions, and I got lucky with one overlooking a quieter side street where you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open. The beds are proper comfortable too – that Japanese hotel standard where everything is compact but incredibly well thought out. The bathroom was small (let’s be real, this is Seoul), but the rainfall shower was surprisingly good, and they stock these nice toiletries that don’t smell like generic hotel soap.
What really won me over was how the staff handled things – they’ve got that Japanese hospitality thing down, but with Korean warmth mixed in. Check-in was smooth, they speak solid English, and when I asked about getting to Myeongdong late at night, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map showing which subway exit to use. Little touches like that make a difference when you’re jet-lagged and trying to navigate a new city. The breakfast spread was decent too – mix of Western and Asian options, though nothing groundbreaking. I’d skip it if you’re adventurous about street food, but it’s reliable if you need something familiar. The coffee was actually pretty good, which surprised me since hotel coffee is usually terrible. One small thing that bugged me – the elevators are a bit slow during busy hours, but that’s hardly a dealbreaker. Overall, this place hits that sweet spot where you get genuine quality without the pretentiousness of some luxury hotels. It’s the kind of place where everything just works, the price feels fair for what you get, and you’d happily book it again. Perfect if you want to be in the heart of Dongdaemun’s shopping madness but still have a peaceful retreat to come back to.
Exploring Seoul offers visitors an unforgettable journey through South Korea’s dynamic capital, from its historic Joseon palaces to its futuristic districts and world-renowned Korean entertainment culture.

Guest Reviews
We love Sotetsu Dongdaemun. I’ve stayed in two other hotels in the area and this one’s my favorite. The staff is very nice & efficient, there’s an elevator right outside the hotel that leads to the metro (the walk inside the metro to get to the trains is still a bit of a walk though); and it’s close to Dongdaemun Design Plaza.
Very clean, excellent location, friendly and accommodating staff.
Good breakfast buffet. I read about there not being enough spaces but this was not the case when we stayed there.
Quiet room even though there was some construction going on next door. Laundry room was very handy.
Bus and metro right in front of the hotel.
Perfect location, very comfortable room and bed. Kindness of the staff.
modern, leise, komfortabel
- Best location, with the airport bus dropping you off right in front of the hotel
- Easy to travel around Seoul and nearby provinces, as the subway station and bus stops are close to the hotel
- Many department stores and shops are nearby, including a wholesale clothing building within a 5-minute walk
- The staff were friendly and helpful
- Water system was working perfectly, no clog, and it was right and stable temperature for showering
It was at the perfect location. Metro at the doorstep and plenty of shops, caffes and restaurants around the area. The room was really nice, the beds were super comfortable and everything was impeccable.
Nice view of the city, very concordance bed and air con worked well. Not in the main tourist area but still close to lots of shopping and restaurants. I appreciated the fitness center.
Great hotel, excellent location next to Metro station.
Well appointed room. Good buffet breakfast.
I had a high room on the 20th floor that gave me fantastic views across the city. Namsan Tower was visible and at night I left the curtains open to bring the city indoors.
Staff were friendly and helpful. I slept very well in the large bed and the room was clean and tidy.
This hotel is in a very good location; the subway station outside is five stops from Seoul Station on the blue Line 4. Cheonggyecheon Park is just up the road, the Design Plaza is nearby and Myeongdong is walkable from here. There is a 7/11 shop a few doors along if you want snacks and drinks as well.
