About this stay

Your Seoul Retreat

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Retro House – Foreigners Only, the name alone made me curious enough to book a stay. It’s not every day you come across a place that’s so upfront about its target audience, you know? This 3-star spot has this quirky, throwback vibe that’s actually pretty charming once you settle in. The whole “foreigners only” concept might sound exclusive or even off-putting at first, but it’s really more about creating this international traveler community where everyone’s sharing stories and swapping recommendations over breakfast.

The retro theme isn’t just slapped on for show either – they’ve actually committed to it. I mean, you’ll find vintage furniture pieces that look like they were pulled straight from the 70s, and somehow it all works together without feeling like a cheesy theme park. The common areas have this lived-in quality that makes you want to hang out with a book or strike up conversations with other guests. What really struck me was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure everyone felt welcome, even if the overall rating of 5.5 suggests it’s not going to blow anyone’s mind. Sometimes you get those places where the heart is in the right place even if everything isn’t perfectly polished, and this feels like one of those spots.

The rooms themselves are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but they’ve got character. You might notice some wear around the edges, which honestly adds to the authentic retro feel rather than detracting from it. The bathrooms are small but well-maintained, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range place. What I appreciated most was the social atmosphere – there’s something about staying somewhere that attracts fellow travelers that makes the whole experience more engaging. You’ll probably end up chatting with someone from a completely different part of the world while waiting for the elevator, or getting restaurant recommendations from guests who’ve been exploring longer than you have. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you prefer the predictable comfort of chain hotels, but if you’re looking for something with a bit more personality and don’t mind trading some luxury for character, Retro House delivers on its promise of being different.

The space was spotless, comfortable, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The bed was incredibly cozy and the kitchen was well-equipped with all the basics, and the decor was super unique and made the place feel even more homely.

The location and the neighborhood was a real highlight—there were so many great places to eat and drink just a short walk away. Whether I was in the mood for a quick coffee, a nice dinner, or a casual drink, there were plenty of options nearby. It made the stay even more enjoyable.

The host was very friendly and quick to respond to any questions I had, which made everything super easy.
