Ian Stay Seongsu
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what really surprised me about Ian Stay Seongsu? It’s got this whole industrial-chic thing going on that actually works – and I mean really works, not just “we threw some exposed pipes on the wall and called it trendy.” The neighborhood itself is fascinating; Seongsu-dong has this amazing transformation happening where old factories are becoming these cool creative spaces, and honestly, this hotel fits right into that vibe without trying too hard.
I’ll be straight with you – it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble lobbies or 24-hour room service. But what they’ve done here is pretty clever. The rooms have this minimalist design that feels intentional rather than cheap, with these great industrial touches like concrete walls and metal fixtures that somehow manage to feel cozy. The lighting is particularly well thought out (something you don’t notice until you’re trying to read in bed, trust me). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night – the area can get pretty buzzy during the day with all the cafes and galleries, but once evening hits, it settles down nicely.
The whole Seoul hipster scene is kind of concentrated in this part of town, which means you’re walking distance from some genuinely cool spots that most tourists never see. There’s this incredible coffee roastery literally around the corner that locals queue up for, and the vintage shops here are the real deal – not the overpriced tourist traps you’ll find in Myeongdong. I actually ended up staying an extra day just to explore more of the neighborhood. The staff seemed to really know their stuff about what was happening locally too, which is refreshing when you’re trying to figure out where to grab dinner that isn’t just another chain restaurant. Check-in was smooth, parking wasn’t a nightmare (though I’d recommend booking a spot ahead if you’re driving), and honestly, for the price point, I was pretty impressed with how they balanced that trendy aesthetic with actual comfort. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just another generic hotel room.
