OPEN near Seoul station

You know what surprised me most about OPEN near Seoul station? It’s actually much quieter than you’d expect for being so close to one of Korea’s busiest transport hubs. I mean, when I first heard the name, I figured I’d be dealing with constant train announcements and crowds, but honestly, once you’re inside, it feels like you’ve found this little pocket of calm in the chaos.

The thing is, this place gets the basics really right – and I don’t mean that in a boring way. The rooms are clean and modern without trying too hard to be trendy, which I appreciate. There’s this minimalist Korean aesthetic going on that feels authentic rather than designed-for-Instagram, if you know what I mean. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given with some of the boutique places around Seoul), and the bathrooms have those rainfall showerheads that make you want to stay in there way longer than necessary. What really sold me though was how the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions – they knew the neighborhood well enough to point me toward this incredible late-night Korean BBQ spot that I never would have found on my own.

Location-wise, you’re basically golden here. I walked to Seoul Station in maybe three minutes, which is clutch if you’re doing day trips or catching the airport express. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re also walking distance to Namdaemun Market and all those winding streets around Myeongdong, plus there are these great little coffee shops and convenience stores right around the corner that stay open late. The area gets pretty lively in the evenings but settles down enough that you can actually sleep. I stayed here during cherry blossom season (probably the worst time for crowds) and while the daytime was hectic, nights were surprisingly peaceful. Honestly, for a 3-star place, it punches above its weight in terms of value and location. It’s not fancy – don’t expect a spa or rooftop bar – but if you want a solid base for exploring Seoul without paying Gangnam prices, this is the kind of place that just works.
