Daeyoung Hotel Myeongdong
Your Seoul Retreat
Honestly, when I first walked into Daeyoung Hotel Myeongdong, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – but you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. The lobby has this clean, minimalist vibe that immediately puts you at ease, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day (which, let’s be real, doesn’t happen everywhere).
What really sold me on this place is how it sits right in the heart of Myeongdong without feeling like you’re trapped in tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally steps away from all the street food vendors and shopping madness, but somehow when you duck into the hotel, there’s this sense of calm that washes over you. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Seoul, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with everything you actually need. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and I appreciated little touches like the heated bathroom floors (trust me, you’ll love this in winter) and the fact that the windows actually block out most of the street noise. Speaking of which, if you’re a light sleeper, maybe request a room on a higher floor – the lower ones can get a bit lively during peak shopping hours.
The real genius of staying here is the location knowledge you gain. The front desk folks will steer you toward the less crowded alleys where locals actually eat, and they’re spot-on about timing your Myeongdong Cathedral visit to avoid the tour bus crowds. I loved being able to grab those famous hotteoks from the street cart just around the corner for breakfast, then retreat back to the hotel when the afternoon shopping frenzy got too intense. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you realize this isn’t trying to be some flashy luxury property – it’s just doing the fundamentals really, really well. The WiFi actually works (fast enough for video calls), the shower pressure is decent, and check-in was smooth even when I arrived way earlier than expected. Sure, the gym is pretty basic and the restaurant options in the hotel are limited, but honestly, why would you eat hotel food when you’re surrounded by some of the best Korean cuisine in the city? For the price point and location, this place delivers exactly what most travelers actually want rather than what hotels think they should want.
To book a hotel in Seoul during major cultural festivals, travelers need early planning as this dynamic capital draws visitors eager to experience its cutting-edge technology and rich traditional heritage.

Guest Reviews
Everything was amazing! The hotel is old school style and run by a small staff. Because of this, they were very attentive, kind, and supportive. The facilities and rooms are refurbished despite the older building, and the room AC kept us so cool and comfortable in the horrible Korean heat. The location was a little hard to find only because Google maps doesn’t allow waking navigation for some reason, but that isn’t the hotel’s fault. There’s a small lounge area next to the lobby where you can rest and enjoy their complimentary coffee and water. Honestly I would 100% recommend this place for anyone who is looking for an affordable but comfortable stay.
The location
1. I overlooked the small size of the room. I could have booked a slightly larger room. The tiny lounge on the G/F is important (with microwave, instant coffee sachet, tea bag, water dispenser providing hot water).
2. Fresh flowers dot the property, including the lounge & room.
3. There's a weighing scale in front of the reception for checking luggage weight.
It is located just opposite to Namdaemun market. The basement room has no window but comfortable enough for solo travellers.
The staff was super helpful, they even give me a map to the Seoul Tower. 10/10. Would book again
Good location. Moderately priced (for Seoul). Very comfortable beds
Excellent service from staff
Excellent location walking distance to the famous Myeongdong shops
Good laundry service
Good local restaurants around
I would return here
Good location, ability to smoke on the roof
I love the room facing the sea.
For two people, the room is considered big. The toilet is clean and has all the toiletries.
everything was exceptional!
The room was clean and big, with a giant washroom. They let me check in a little early, and after 10 hours of travel, it was lovely.
stay here and you'll love it
