May house Overview

You know what? When I first walked up to May house, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – but sometimes those lower expectations work in your favor. This little gem surprised me right from the start, and I mean that in the best way possible. The entrance has this understated charm that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciated after dealing with some of those overly flashy chain hotels.

The thing that struck me most was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth (no weird upselling tactics or confusing key card explanations), and honestly, the front desk person gave me better local restaurant recommendations than most concierges at fancier places. My room was clean – like, properly clean, not just surface-level tidy – and while it wasn’t huge, everything felt thoughtfully arranged. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, which matters way more than thread count when you’re actually trying to sleep. I did notice some street noise in the early morning, but nothing a decent pair of earplugs couldn’t handle if you’re sensitive to that sort of thing.

What really sold me on May house was the attention to those small details that most places skip. The shower actually had good water pressure (you travelers know what I’m talking about), the Wi-Fi worked consistently throughout the building, and – this might sound silly – but they had those little hooks in the bathroom where you actually need them. The common areas felt lived-in rather than sterile, with comfortable seating that looked like real people had chosen it rather than some corporate decorator. I spent a good chunk of one evening just hanging out in the lobby area, and it never felt awkward or forced. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that makes you feel like you can breathe a little easier. Sure, you’re not getting marble countertops or a rooftop infinity pool, but you’re getting something better – a place that feels authentic and well-run without trying too hard. That 8.5 rating makes perfect sense to me; it’s the kind of spot where everything works the way it should, the price feels fair, and you’d definitely consider staying again.

Reviews of May house

  • Ji-yeon from United States (9/10)

The location was great because there was an airport metro line stop near the stay (about a 10-minute walk from the station). Additionally, that metro line connects to many major places, such as Hongdae (Hongik Univ.) and Myeongdong. The area is a local town with fewer tourists and many locals.

It was a bit challenging to find the location since it is an old & small apartment, but once you enter the building, it's easy to identify the unit because it is decorated adorably. Inside, the apartment was super clean and cute (like their photos).

There were a lot of mosquitoes during my stay because it was mosquito season (not their fault, as Korea generally has a lot of mosquitoes before winter). Other than that, it was an amazing and cozy stay.
