LOTTE City Hotel Mapo Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you – when I first heard about LOTTE City Hotel Mapo, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in this part of Seoul. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions just bite you in the rear, and this was definitely one of those times.
The thing about Seoul is that the Mapo district isn’t exactly where tourists usually end up – it’s more of a working neighborhood, which actually turned out to be pretty refreshing. I mean, you’re not dodging selfie sticks every five minutes, and the local restaurants around the hotel serve actual Korean comfort food instead of the tourist-friendly stuff you get in Myeongdong. The hotel itself sits in this interesting spot where you can walk to some seriously good late-night spots (there’s this incredible jjigae place about two blocks away that stays open until 3 AM), but it’s also quiet enough that you’ll actually get some sleep. The rooms are… well, they’re compact in that efficient Korean way, but honestly everything you need is there. The beds are surprisingly comfortable – I’m talking proper firm mattresses, not those saggy disasters you sometimes get at budget places. What really got me though was how clean everything was. I’ve stayed at fancier hotels that couldn’t match the housekeeping standards here.
Here’s something I didn’t expect – the staff actually remembers you after a day or two. Not in a creepy way, just… professional but warm, you know? They helped me figure out the subway connections (which can be brutal if you’re not used to Seoul’s system), and when I mentioned I was looking for good local barbecue, the front desk guy drew me a little map to his personal favorite spot. That kind of local insight is worth its weight in gold, honestly. The WiFi is solid throughout the building – I was working remotely part of the time and never had issues, even during peak hours. One small thing that bugged me initially was that the air conditioning is a bit aggressive, but once you figure out the controls it’s fine. The location really grew on me too – sure, you might need to take a subway ride to hit the major tourist spots, but being in an actual Seoul neighborhood where people live and work? That’s where you get the real experience. Plus, with an 8.4 rating, clearly I’m not the only one who ended up pleasantly surprised by this place. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I appreciate more than I probably should.

Reviews of LOTTE City Hotel Mapo
Hong from New Zealand (9/10)
Location was excellent!
Haven't had breakfast this time.
Supermarket, restaurants and train station were very handy. Very happy with the HotelSteven from United Kingdom (8/10)
The location is great, close to Hongdae and the city centre, while just far away enough to be a bit quieter. The hotel itself is situated over an exit from Gongdoek station, and has a small shopping arcade below it featuring various restaurants and a small supermarket. More restaurants, bars and a larger supermarket (E-Mart) are only a short walk away.
The hotel has a number of useful additions, including a convenience store and pharmacy in the lobby, a gym and swimming pool, and coin laundery.
The room was clean and spacious, and well equipped with a small fridge. The bathroom was large, featuring a seperate bath and shower in a wetroom configuration. The bed was large, soft and comfortable.Juliette from Belgium (8/10)
The location really close to the subway station and many lines.
The hotel is very clean and has everything you might need within its premises (convenience store, pharmacy, gym, etc.) and the staff is always there to help you.
The room isn't big but has lots of storage and the bathroom is spacious and clean. The cleaning staff really does an amazing job!
