The Grand Hotel Myeongdong
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what really surprised me about The Grand Hotel Myeongdong? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be flashy, but somehow gets all the important stuff right. I mean, when you’re staying in the heart of Seoul‘s shopping district, you expect chaos and tourist traps everywhere – but this 3-star gem actually feels like a quiet refuge once you step inside.
The lobby has this understated elegance that I wasn’t expecting – clean lines, warm lighting, nothing too fancy but definitely not budget-hotel vibes either. Check-in was smooth, and honestly, the staff’s English was better than my Korean, which saved me from some embarrassing moments. What really won me over was the attention to small details. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Seoul, after all), but they’re smartly designed with enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without playing furniture Tetris. The beds are surprisingly comfortable – I’m talking deep sleep despite being right in the middle of one of the busiest shopping areas in Asia. They’ve got decent soundproofing too, which is crucial because Myeongdong doesn’t really sleep.
Speaking of location – and I know everyone says this, but hear me out – you’re literally steps away from everything that matters. Turn left out the front door and you’re at Myeongdong Cathedral in two minutes. Turn right and you’re drowning in cosmetics shops and street food stalls. The subway entrance is close enough that you don’t need to plan extra time for walking, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant rumble of trains. I actually discovered some of my favorite late-night Korean fried chicken spots just wandering the alleys nearby. The hotel sits on one of those side streets that’s quiet enough for a decent night’s sleep but still feels safe and well-lit when you’re coming back from exploring Hongdae or Gangnam. With an 8.2 rating, it’s clearly doing something right – and after staying there, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Seoul, but it nails the basics while giving you that local neighborhood feel that a lot of international chains miss completely. Plus, the value is solid for what you get in this part of the city.
Hotels in Seoul offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this metropolitan hub, with easy access to world-class shopping, traditional markets, and vibrant nightlife districts.

Guest Reviews
Staff were friendly and courteous. They were very helpful in assisting with directions and organizing transportation to the airport. Excellent location in the heart of shopping & street food!
The location is excellent, right in the heart of Myeongdong. Room is small but sufficient. Bed is firm but comfortable. The room was quiet and everything in it worked properly.
We loved our stay at The Grand Hotel. The location was ideal as it is within Myeongdong- it is easy for you to go shopping and head back to the hotel to rest. Will recommend!
Location, helpful and kind staff
Location was great, near subway entrance and close to many restaurants and shops. Front desk staff helped call us a cab on last day in middle of the night as we realized we couldn’t call for a larger van (to fit our suitcases) via Kakao taxi.
Location fantastic
The location is excellent and you can buy and eat everynight till 11pm. You can also buy all signature handgift from the shops nearby the hotel. There are foot message shop and tasty korean restaurant just next to the hotel. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.
