Jongno Stay
Your Seoul Retreat
First Impressions
When I first walked into Jongno Stay, I’ll be honest — it’s not going to blow you away with grand marble lobbies or chandeliers. This three-star guesthouse sits quietly in a basement level on a narrow street in Seoul, but you know what? That’s exactly what makes it work. The entrance might feel a bit underground (literally), but once you’re inside, there’s something genuinely welcoming about the simple, clean setup that immediately puts you at ease.
Location Magic
Here’s where this place really shines — the location is absolutely stellar. You’re tucked into Jongno-gu, which means you can walk to Changgyeonggung Palace in about five minutes, and honestly, being this close to one of Seoul’s most beautiful palaces without paying tourist-trap prices feels like you’ve discovered a secret. The neighborhood has that authentic Seoul vibe where you’ll see locals heading to work in the morning and elderly folks playing baduk in the small parks. Bukchon Hanok Village is just a short stroll away, and you can actually explore those traditional Korean houses without fighting through massive tour groups if you head out early.
The Room Experience
The room itself is compact but thoughtfully designed — I mean, this is Seoul, so you’re not expecting a sprawling suite anyway. What impressed me was how they maximized every inch of space without making it feel cramped. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom, while small, had excellent water pressure. There’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right rather than trying to wow you with unnecessary extras.
Practical Perks
The staff here actually cares, which you don’t always find at budget-friendly places. They’ll give you real recommendations — not just the obvious tourist spots — and they’re genuinely helpful with directions. The Wi-Fi works perfectly (crucial for staying connected), and the building stays quiet even though you’re in a busy part of the city. I appreciated that they provide good quality towels and toiletries, small touches that show they understand what travelers actually need.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Jongno Stay apart is how it delivers exactly what couples and solo travelers want without any pretense. You’re paying for an excellent location, clean comfortable accommodations, and helpful service — not fancy amenities you probably won’t use anyway. The fact that couples rate this place so highly tells you something important: it’s romantic in that understated way where you can focus on exploring Seoul together rather than being stuck in some generic hotel district. Plus, you’ll save enough money to actually enjoy Seoul’s incredible food scene, which honestly is where you should be spending your budget anyway.
Best hotels in Seoul range from luxurious properties in the upscale Gangnam district to boutique hotels with stunning views of Namsan Tower and the Han River.
