JAY Hanok ㅡ 3BR 3Bath ㅡ 8min from Anguk STN
Your Seoul Retreat
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about JAY Hanok ㅡ 3BR 3Bath ㅡ 8min from Anguk STN, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the quirky name. But after staying there, I get why they kept it simple and just focused on what matters: this is a proper three-bedroom hanok that’s ridiculously close to Anguk Station. And when I say close, I mean you can literally roll out of bed, grab your coffee, and still make it to the subway with time to spare.
The thing about staying in Bukchon – and this place sits right in the sweet spot of the neighborhood – is that you’re getting the full Seoul experience without the tourist trap feeling. You know what I love about this hanok? It actually feels like someone’s home, not a sterile vacation rental. The three bathrooms are clutch if you’re traveling with a group (no more bathroom queues in the morning), and the traditional architecture details are still intact. I mean, you’ve got the curved rooflines and wooden beams, but they’ve smartly modernized everything that actually matters. The ondol heating system works perfectly, which you’ll appreciate if you visit in winter – trust me on this one.
What really sold me was the location, though. Eight minutes to Anguk Station sounds like marketing speak, but I timed it – it’s actually more like six if you walk at a normal pace. From there, you’re two stops to Myeongdong, four to Hongik University, and the whole city opens up. But honestly, you might not want to venture too far because this area is incredible for wandering. Insadong is right there with all its tea houses and galleries, and if you head up toward Changdeokgung Palace, you’ll hit some of the most Instagram-worthy hanok villages in the city. The morning light hitting those traditional roofs – it’s something else.
I should mention that the streets here are narrow and can get busy with tour groups during peak hours (usually 10 AM to 3 PM), but early mornings and evenings are pure magic. There’s this little convenience store about two minutes away that becomes your best friend, and several traditional restaurants within walking distance where locals actually eat. The whole area has this lived-in feeling that a lot of Seoul’s traditional districts have lost to commercialization, if you know what I mean.
The space itself sleeps eight comfortably, and the three separate bathrooms mean nobody’s fighting over shower time. It’s one of those places where you can actually imagine living for a while, not just passing through. The Wi-Fi is solid (important for those work-cations), and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to grab ingredients from the local market and cook something. Just don’t expect a dishwasher – this is still a traditional building at heart, beautifully updated but respectfully so.
