Hotel New Oriental Myeongdong Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hotel New Oriental Myeongdong, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in one of Seoul‘s busiest districts. But you know what? Sometimes the best travel surprises come from keeping your expectations in check. This place actually gets it right in ways that matter, which probably explains that solid 8.5 rating from guests who’ve stayed here.
The location is what really sold me on this spot. You’re right in the thick of Myeongdong‘s shopping madness, but somehow the hotel manages to feel like a little refuge once you step inside. I mean, you can literally roll out of bed and be at Myeongdong Cathedral in about three minutes – I timed it because I’m that kind of person. The subway connections are ridiculous too; Myeongdong Station is so close you’ll probably walk past it twice before you realize it’s right there. What I really appreciated though was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about finding decent Korean barbecue that wasn’t totally touristy, the front desk guy gave me specific directions to this little place two blocks over that locals actually go to.
The rooms themselves are pretty typical for Seoul standards – not huge, but they’ve clearly put thought into maximizing the space. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff), and the bathrooms are clean with decent water pressure, which honestly is all I really care about after a long day of walking around the city. One thing that caught my attention was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re basically in the middle of shopping central. I was expecting street noise and crowds until all hours, but the double-glazed windows do their job. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely need if you’re visiting during Seoul’s brutal summer months. I stayed there in August and never felt like I was melting, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve been. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards – the décor is pretty straightforward, maybe even a bit dated – but everything functions properly, the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and the staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re comfortable. For the price point and that location, it’s honestly hard to complain about much.
Apartments in Seoul provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional Korean markets and experience daily life in modern residential neighborhoods.
