Grand Mercure Imperial Palace Seoul Gangnam Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about the Grand Mercure Imperial Palace Seoul Gangnam, I was a bit skeptical about another luxury hotel in the area. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in ways I wasn’t expecting. The location puts you right in the thick of Gangnam’s energy, which means you’re walking distance from some seriously good Korean BBQ spots and those late-night convenience stores that somehow become your best friend when you’re dealing with jet lag.
The thing about this hotel that caught me off guard was how they’ve managed to balance that upscale Imperial Palace vibe with something that feels genuinely comfortable rather than stuffy. I mean, sure, it’s got all the five-star touches you’d expect, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole experience. The lobby has this interesting mix of traditional Korean elements and modern design that doesn’t feel forced – you know how some places try too hard with the cultural fusion thing? This isn’t that. When I was checking in, I noticed how efficiently they handled the evening rush of business travelers, which tells you something about how well they understand their clientele in this part of Seoul.
What really won me over, though, was the attention to those little details that matter when you’re actually living in a hotel room for a few days. The soundproofing is solid (crucial in Gangnam, trust me), and the room layout actually makes sense for spreading out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathroom situation is particularly well thought out – good water pressure, proper lighting for getting ready, and those heated floors that you don’t realize you need until you experience them. Now, I should mention that the 7.2 rating isn’t necessarily a reflection of any major flaws – it’s more about expectations at this price point. Some guests probably expect perfection at every turn, but honestly, I found the service consistent and the staff genuinely helpful with local recommendations. They steered me toward this incredible hole-in-the-wall place for bibimbap that I never would have found on my own. The breakfast spread is solid too, with a good mix of Western and Korean options, though it does get busy around 8 AM when all the business folks are heading out. If you’re the type who likes to ease into your morning, aim for 7 or after 9:30.

Grand and opulent lobby with grand Christmas lighting! It was a delightful experience.Yasmin from Netherlands (3/10)
The room itself was the only positive experience staying at this hotel. The hotel has potential though, once they finish renovating and have the promised facilities available, and the staff is able to have normal and kind interactions with people. I could write more but to summarize, it was a very weird experience to stay at this hotel and I wouldn't recommend it.

Exceptional decor and atmosphere. People were constantly in the lobby taking photos as the Christmas decorations and general look of the place was amazing.
Breakfast buffet had large variety and was of a high standard.
