The Yeonnam-dong area has completely transformed over the past few years, and staying here puts you right in the thick of it. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Hongik University (hence the name), but more importantly, you’re surrounded by these amazing little cafés, vinyl record shops, and hole-in-the-wall restaurants that most tourists never find. I spent way too much time at this tiny coffee roastery just around the corner – the kind of place where the owner remembers your order after two visits. The neighborhood gets pretty lively in the evenings, especially on weekends when university students are out, but the hotel itself stays surprisingly quiet. I was worried about noise, actually, but the rooms are well-insulated.

Speaking of the rooms, they’re compact but thoughtfully designed – very much in that Korean efficiency style where every inch serves a purpose. The beds are comfortable (firmer than what Americans might expect, but that’s pretty standard here), and they’ve got these great blackout curtains that actually work. Check-in was smooth, though the front desk staff’s English is somewhat limited – nothing Google Translate can’t handle, and they’re genuinely helpful. What I really appreciated was how clean everything felt; you know that fresh, almost sterile cleanliness that Korean accommodations do so well. The bathrooms are tiny but modern, with those rainfall showerheads and heated floors that make you wonder why more places don’t have them. Parking can be tricky in this area – there’s no dedicated hotel parking, so you’ll be hunting for street spots or using nearby paid lots if you’re driving. Honestly though, the subway access is so good (Hongik-Ik Station is maybe a seven-minute walk) that I’d skip the car entirely. The 8.0 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury by any stretch, but for a 3-star place, it delivers exactly what you’d want: a comfortable, clean base in one of Seoul’s most interesting neighborhoods without breaking the bank.
