Private Hanok Space MODA
Your Seoul Retreat
First Impressions
Walking into Private Hanok Space MODA honestly feels like stepping into someone’s beautifully curated home rather than a typical hotel. This three-star property in Seoul’s Seongbuk-gu district is actually a traditional Korean hanok that’s been thoughtfully modernized — you know, the kind of place where exposed wooden beams meet contemporary design without feeling forced. The moment you cross the threshold, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty rare to find in a bustling city like Seoul. The attention to detail throughout the space reflects the property’s impressive 9.5 rating.
The Neighborhood Charm
What I love about this location is how it sits in Seongbuk-gu, which is honestly one of Seoul’s best-kept secrets for travelers who want to experience authentic Korean residential life. You’re tucked away on Samseongyo-ro 6-gil, a quiet street that feels worlds apart from the tourist crowds, but you can still reach the main attractions without too much hassle. The area has this lovely mix of traditional houses and small local cafes — I mean, you’ll find elderly locals playing janggi (Korean chess) in the small parks nearby, which gives you a real glimpse into daily Seoul life. This neighborhood positioning makes it ideal for guests seeking genuine cultural immersion.
The Space Itself
The room design strikes this perfect balance between honoring the hanok’s traditional architecture and providing modern comfort. The ondol (underfloor heating) system works beautifully during cooler months, and the layout feels surprisingly spacious despite the compact footprint. What really impressed me was how they’ve maintained the original wooden framework while adding contemporary touches like quality bedding and updated bathroom facilities. The courtyard area — well, it’s small but perfectly formed, giving you that quintessential hanok experience of indoor-outdoor living.
Practical Considerations
Here’s what you should know: this isn’t a place with a front desk or daily housekeeping service, so you’ll need to be comfortable with a more independent style of accommodation. The hosts are incredibly responsive though, and they’ll meet you for check-in and provide all the local insights you could want. Everything from the Wi-Fi to the heating works exactly as it should, and the cleanliness standards are impeccable. The property offers a self-guided experience that appeals to travelers seeking autonomy and authenticity.
Why Guests Love It
Couples particularly seem to fall for this place, and I totally get why — there’s something inherently romantic about staying in a traditional Korean house, especially when it’s been done with this level of care and attention. The location has earned outstanding praise from recent guests, which honestly doesn’t surprise me given how well-positioned it is for exploring both traditional and modern Seoul. You’re getting an authentic cultural experience without sacrificing comfort, and that combination is actually pretty hard to find. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re living in Seoul rather than just visiting it.
To book hotel in Seoul during the vibrant cherry blossom season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts K-culture enthusiasts and modern travelers from around the world.

Guest Reviews
Everything. Beautifully renovated Hanok in great location. Seongbuk is an interesting and exciting neighbourhood with many independent shops, cafes, bakeries and restaurants. Close to the city walls for hikes into the mountains. Host was very friendly and welcoming and provided excellent recommendations for the local area.
