Petercat Hotel Shinchon Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Petercat Hotel Shinchon, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions are exactly what get you pleasantly surprised. The lobby has this quirky cat theme going on (obviously, given the name), and while it could’ve been cheesy, they actually pulled it off in a way that feels more playful than gimmicky. The front desk staff were genuinely helpful too – not just the polite-but-distant kind you sometimes get, but actually seemed to care about making sure you knew your way around the neighborhood.
What really won me over was the location in Shinchon itself. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of one of Seoul‘s most vibrant university districts, which means incredible street food basically at your doorstep and energy that goes well into the night. The hotel sits close enough to Hongik University that you can walk over in about ten minutes, but far enough from the main party strips that you can actually sleep if you want to. During my stay, I could hear some street noise in the evenings – nothing terrible, just the buzz of people having a good time – but it died down by midnight most nights. The rooms are clean and functional, though don’t expect luxury at this price point. My room was smaller than what you’d find in American hotels, but that’s pretty standard for Seoul, and honestly, with everything happening outside, you’ll probably only be using it to sleep anyway.
Here’s what I really appreciated: the neighborhood knowledge the staff had was spot-on. They pointed me toward this tiny pojangmacha (street food stall) about two blocks away that served the best tteokbokki I had during my entire Seoul trip – definitely not something you’d find in a guidebook. The hotel’s 7.7 rating feels about right to me. It’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. The WiFi was solid, the shower had decent water pressure, and check-in was smooth even when I arrived pretty late. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to be in the thick of Seoul’s student culture and nightlife scene – think karaoke rooms, late-night cafes, and streets full of twenty-somethings – this is actually a really smart choice. Just pack some earplugs if you’re a super light sleeper, and maybe don’t expect room service or a concierge desk.

Reviews of Petercat Hotel Shinchon
Rioflor from Philippines (8/10)
We like everything, my husband, my child, and I, love everything with our stay in Petercat Hotel.
We booked a triple room for 3 nights. The location is perfect, the hotel is clean, the staff speaks very good english, the hotel is not big but you will have everything you need. They even have luggage weighing scale. For us, our stay was so worth it. Personally, I was shocked that they have "ikon" items for free takeaway. Amazing. They have a pantry where you can use the microwave, there's hot&cold water, tissue, both wet & dry. Free Coffee, chopsticks, etc.
As a Filipino with regular size physique, we find our room so spacious. We can even lay open 2 pieces of luggage, 1 XL and 1 Large, together. Highly recommended.Chiara from Italy (7/10)
