About this stay

Your Seoul Retreat

Honestly, when I first saw the name PAPA STAY #Dongdaemun 5min on foot #Free Wi-Fi, I thought it was going to be one of those quirky Korean guesthouses that tries too hard – you know what I mean? But after spending a few nights there, I actually get why they went with the straightforward approach. Sometimes you just want to know exactly what you’re getting, and this place delivers on its promises without any fuss.

The five-minute walk to Dongdaemun is no joke – I timed it because I’m that person, and it’s actually closer to four minutes if you walk at a normal pace. What I really appreciated was how the route takes you through some quieter side streets where you’ll see locals grabbing their morning coffee and street food vendors setting up for the day. There’s this little convenience store about halfway that became my go-to for late-night snacks, and the ajumma who runs it started recognizing me by day three. The area gets pretty lively in the evenings, but the building itself is tucked away enough that you won’t hear the shopping district buzz once you’re inside.

Speaking of inside – the Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, which honestly surprised me because I’ve stayed at places twice the price where the connection dies the moment you step into the bathroom. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid three-star place in this part of Seoul: clean, functional, with that particular Korean attention to making small spaces work efficiently. I mean, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything you need is there and thoughtfully placed. The shower pressure is decent (better than my last apartment, actually), and the heating system keeps things comfortable even when it gets chilly outside. What really won me over was the little touches – like having enough outlets near the bed and a proper desk area if you need to get some work done. The staff speaks enough English to help with basics, and they’re genuinely helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. One guy at the front desk actually drew me a little map to his favorite naengmyeon spot, which turned out to be incredible and totally off the tourist path. Sure, it’s not fancy, but sometimes you just want a reliable base where you can crash after exploring the night markets and shopping districts without breaking the bank.

Best hotels in Seoul range from luxurious properties in the upscale Gangnam district to boutique hotels with stunning views of Namsan Tower and the Han River.
