OYO Rooftop Hostel Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to OYO Rooftop Hostel, but this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The name pretty much tells you everything – it’s literally built around this fantastic rooftop space that becomes the heart of the whole experience. I mean, most hostels just throw some plastic chairs on a concrete slab and call it a “terrace,” but these folks actually put some thought into it.
The rooftop area is where you’ll probably end up spending most of your evenings, honestly. There’s something really nice about having your morning coffee up there while the city slowly wakes up below you – and trust me, the sunset views are worth staying in for. The whole setup feels more like a friend’s apartment building than a typical hostel, which I found refreshing after staying in some pretty sterile places. The common areas have that lived-in vibe that makes you want to actually hang out instead of just hiding in your room. Speaking of rooms, they’re nothing fancy but they’re clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m pretty picky about mattresses after years of travel). The bathrooms are shared but well-maintained, and I never had to wait around too long – though mornings can get a bit busy if you’re not an early riser.
What really won me over was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making sure everyone had a good time. They’re not just going through the motions – they’ll actually sit down and give you proper recommendations based on what you’re into, not just hand you a generic tourist map. The 8.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days; it’s one of those places that grows on you. Sure, it’s not luxury (it’s a 3-star hostel, after all), but the atmosphere more than makes up for any rough edges. The crowd tends to be a good mix of solo travelers and small groups, mostly people in their twenties and thirties who actually want to meet other travelers rather than just crash somewhere cheap. I ended up extending my stay by two nights because I was having such a good time with the people I met there – which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen at every hostel. If you’re looking for a place with character where you might actually make some friends and enjoy the social scene, this is definitely worth considering.
Early hotels booking in Seoul requires advance planning during peak tourist seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s legendary palaces, shopping districts, and Korean cultural attractions.
