Myeongdong Merlin Hotel Overview
Look, I’ll be honest with you – the Myeongdong Merlin Hotel isn’t going to win any luxury awards, but there’s something refreshingly straightforward about this place that I actually appreciate. When I first walked into the lobby, it had that clean, no-nonsense vibe of a hotel that knows exactly what it is. The staff at check-in were efficient (maybe a little hurried during the evening rush), and you know what? Sometimes that’s better than overly chatty service when you’re jet-lagged and just want your room key.
What really works here is the location – I mean, you’re right in the thick of Myeongdong, which honestly can be overwhelming if you’re not prepared for the crowds. But once you figure out the rhythm of the neighborhood, it’s pretty fantastic. I’d step out of the hotel in the morning and within two minutes I was grabbing coffee from one of those tiny street vendors, watching the whole district wake up before the shopping chaos begins. The evenings are when things get really interesting though – the street food scene literally unfolds right outside, and I found myself making multiple trips down just to try different stalls. Fair warning: it gets loud, especially on weekends, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs or request a room facing away from the main drag.
The rooms themselves are… well, they’re fine. Clean, compact, with that slightly generic hotel feel you get at most 3-star places. The beds were actually more comfortable than I expected, and the bathroom was small but functional – hot water was consistent, which is honestly all I really care about after walking around the city all day. I noticed the housekeeping was thorough, though they tend to come by pretty early if you don’t hang the do-not-disturb sign. One thing that surprised me was how quiet the hallways were considering how busy the location is – they must have decent soundproofing between the rooms and corridors. The WiFi worked fine for basic stuff, though I wouldn’t try streaming movies or anything intensive. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you sleep well, shower quickly, and head out to explore – which, let’s face it, is exactly what you want when you’re staying in Myeongdong anyway.
Seoul hotels provide guests with comfortable accommodations in South Korea’s bustling capital, known for its innovative technology, K-pop culture, and historical palaces.

It was easy to find. The hotel sent me directions that were easy to follow; it was a good thing because Google maps isn't accurate there and the local mapping app was difficult for me to use. The directions they sent were perfect on the train from ICN. The receptionist was very kind and helpful. I had a very early flight and she arranged transportation for me since the train didn't run early enough. There was free water in the lobby. The location was good as it was close to the subway. They give you a little bag of amenities which include a toothbrush and toothpaste which was nice as well. There were plenty of outlets in the room. It was quiet. It's a great value for the money you spend.

The location is good, but I guess that depends on what you're in Seoul for. It's pretty central in terms of the city itself, so that's a plus. However, if you're more interested in hiking in the Bukhansan National Park in the north of the city (like I was), you could probably do a bit better in terms of location. To be fair, the metro system is pretty good, so even at this location, it's not much of a problem to get anywhere within Seoul.
