La Tulipe Overview
You know what caught me off guard about La Tulipe? The name had me expecting something overly fancy or pretentious, but honestly, this 3-star gem surprised me in the best possible way. I mean, sure, it’s not going to blow you away with marble lobbies or infinity pools, but there’s something genuinely charming about the place that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto a local secret rather than just another tourist trap.
The first thing I noticed walking in was how the staff actually seemed to care – and I don’t mean that fake hospitality smile you get at chain hotels. They remembered my name after the first day, knew I preferred my coffee black at breakfast, that sort of thing. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple.” Clean lines, comfortable beds (seriously, I slept better than I expected), and those little touches that show someone put actual thought into the design rather than just ordering everything from a hotel furniture catalog. The bathroom was compact but well-laid out – you’re not going to be bumping your elbows every time you brush your teeth, which honestly happens more often than it should at places in this price range.
What really won me over, though, was the breakfast situation. I’m usually skeptical of hotel breakfasts – they’re either sad continental spreads or overpriced buffets that taste like they’ve been sitting under heat lamps since dawn. But here? Fresh pastries that actually taste homemade, decent coffee, and they switch up the offerings throughout the week so you’re not eating the same croissant seven days in a row. The dining area gets this gorgeous morning light that makes everything feel warm and welcoming, not like you’re eating in a cafeteria. I found myself lingering over coffee way longer than usual, just people-watching and planning my day without feeling rushed.
The 8.2 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier places that left me more frustrated than relaxed. Here, everything just worked smoothly. Check-in was quick, the WiFi actually had decent speed (crucial for me since I was working remotely part of the trip), and when I had a question about local transportation, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – they gave me actual useful advice about timing and routes. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in feel that I really appreciated. You’re not stuck in some sterile hotel district; there are actual locals walking around, small shops that aren’t just tourist traps, the kind of cafés where you see the same faces every morning. It’s the difference between visiting a place and actually experiencing it, if that makes sense.

The location it's just a 17-minute walk to Seokchon Lake which is one of my favorite place. Also nearby 7/11 and coffee shops, about 10-15 minutes walk to subway and bus stations. So a very good location. Not too far from places we visited.
