Kensington Hotel Yeouido
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what struck me first about the Kensington Hotel Yeouido? It’s got this understated confidence that you don’t always find in Seoul‘s hotel scene. I mean, Yeouido isn’t exactly where most tourists plant themselves – it’s more the financial district where all the banking towers and KBS headquarters live – but honestly, that’s part of what makes this place work so well.
The lobby has this clean, almost minimalist Korean aesthetic that feels genuinely sophisticated without trying too hard. The staff actually remembers your name after the second day (which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen everywhere), and check-in was surprisingly smooth even when I arrived during what seemed like a business conference rush. The rooms are what I’d call smartly designed – not huge by American standards, but everything has its place, and the beds are legitimately comfortable. The bathrooms are spotless with those heated toilet seats that you’ll miss when you get home. One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, despite being in the heart of the business district. You get these glimpses of the Han River from some of the upper floors, especially beautiful around sunset when the light hits the water just right.
What I love about staying here is that you’re walking distance from the National Assembly building and Yeouido Park, which honestly has some of the best cherry blossoms in spring if you time it right. The hotel’s location puts you right in the thick of where actual Seoul residents work and hang out – there are these great local restaurants tucked between the office buildings that you’d never find in Myeongdong or Hongdae. The nearby IFC Mall is perfect when you need something familiar, but I’d recommend wandering the side streets for real Korean barbecue spots where businesspeople grab lunch. The subway connections are solid too – Line 5 and 9 both run through here, so you can get to the tourist areas pretty easily, but you’ll probably find yourself wanting to stick around the neighborhood more than you expected. Room service is decent, though I’d skip it for dinner and head downstairs to explore. The hotel’s restaurant does a surprisingly good job with both Korean and international breakfast options. It’s definitely a 4-star experience that feels more authentic than some of the flashier places in Gangnam, and at this price point, you’re getting genuine value rather than paying for location bragging rights.
Early hotels booking in Seoul requires advance planning during peak tourist seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s legendary palaces, shopping districts, and Korean cultural attractions.
