Joy Guesthouse Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Joy Guesthouse? The name actually fits – and I mean that in the best way possible, because usually these quirky guesthouse names are just wishful thinking. But honestly, there’s something genuinely cheerful about this place that hits you the moment you walk through the front door. Maybe it’s the way the staff actually remembers your name after day one, or how they’ve got this little coffee setup in the lobby that’s available literally all hours (I’m talking 3 AM when you stumble in from exploring the local nightlife).
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t some fancy resort with marble everything and doormen in uniforms. It’s a solid 3-star spot, but the 9.1 rating makes total sense once you settle in. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing revolutionary, but they’ve got those little touches that show someone actually cares. Fresh towels that don’t feel like sandpaper, decent water pressure in the shower, and – this might sound weird – but the beds are actually comfortable. I mean, you’d be surprised how many places mess up something as basic as a good night’s sleep. The walls are reasonably thick too, so you’re not listening to your neighbor’s entire phone conversation with their mom back home.
What really won me over was the breakfast situation. It’s not some elaborate buffet spread, but they do this simple, fresh approach that actually tastes like food instead of hotel food, if that makes sense. Plus, the whole vibe is just… relaxed. You can sit there with your coffee, plan your day, maybe chat with other travelers without feeling rushed or like you’re taking up valuable real estate. The location works well too – you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere, but you’re also not dealing with constant street noise and chaos right outside your window. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which honestly can make or break a trip depending on how much stuff you’re hauling around. I’d definitely come back here, and that’s saying something because I’m usually pretty picky about where I stay.

Joy Guesthouse: A Comfortable and Convenient Stay in Seoul
Joy Guesthouse, centrally located in Jung-Gu, provided an ideal base for exploring Seoul. Its proximity to bus stops and subway stations made navigating the city a breeze. A short 10-minute walk led us to the vibrant Dongdaemun district, while a short subway ride took us to the bustling Myeongdong.
Mr. Choi, the friendly and accommodating owner, went above and beyond to ensure a smooth trip. He provided essential pre-trip information, including the guesthouse's address and phone number for our K-ETA visa application, lodged online. Additionally, he shared Joy Guesthouse Naver Map location (in Korean) and detailed instructions, including schedules for using airport buses and subways to reach the guesthouse.
While the rooms were compact, they were well-equipped and comfortable. Soft comforters, fresh towels, ample hangers, a convenient weighing scale, a washing machine, microwave, water dispenser and well-stocked pantry with coffee and snacks enhanced our stay.
The surrounding area offered a variety of local eateries as well as a convenience store and a simple bakery.
Overall, Joy Guesthouse provided a comfortable and convenient stay in Seoul. Its prime location, helpful host, well-equipped rooms and affordable prices on Booking.com made it an excellent choice for our trip.Jiyeon from Japan (10/10)

Joy was so nice and such a good host. The room was super cozy and great value for the price really. I’d definitely stay again the next time I go to Korea. The location is really good and so central, surrounded by yummy local food. Felt really safe especially just traveling with me and my mom, there’s so much provided and we just felt so cared for!

The owner was really nice and was very easy to talk to. We were on the 3rd floor so he helped us carry our luggage. I also liked how amenities were self service (Towels, Tissue, etc) and that we could renew every day.

It's not the most luxurious place but it had everything we needed. You get plenty of amenities and the host is incredible! Really helpful, carried our 2 suitcases up to the top floor by himself which he really didn't need to do. We didn't get a chance to leave a post it note on the wall but you'll see, this place has hosted many happy people over the years

The host was incredibly kind, he stayed late to help us check in, and then proceeded to carry x2 of our 12 kilo bags up 4 flights of stairs! Thanks again, it was a great stay, nice location (right next to lots of amazing restaurants) and heated floors!
