Joy Guesthouse Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Joy Guesthouse in Seoul, you immediately get the sense that this three-star place punches way above its weight class. It’s tucked into this narrow street in Jung-gu that honestly feels more residential than touristy — which is exactly what makes it special. The building itself isn’t flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the entrance that made me feel like I was staying with friends rather than checking into another generic hotel.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about where this guesthouse sits — you’re literally in the heart of traditional Seoul, but you can walk to Myeongdong’s shopping chaos in about ten minutes when you need that urban energy fix. The narrow alleys around Toegye-ro are filled with tiny restaurants where locals actually eat, not just tourist traps. I mean, when couples are rating the location 9.8 out of 10, they’re onto something real. You know what really sold me? I could grab authentic Korean breakfast from the ajumma’s place around the corner, then be at Dongdaemun Market before most tourists even finished their hotel buffets.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully designed — everything had its place without feeling cramped. What struck me most was how clean everything was, and I’m talking about that deep-clean feeling you get in Korean homes, not just surface-level hotel housekeeping. The bedding was surprisingly comfortable for a guesthouse, and honestly, the heating system worked perfectly (which matters more than you’d think during Seoul winters). There’s free Wi-Fi that actually works fast enough for video calls, and the windows open to give you a slice of real neighborhood life below.
Neighborhood Vibes
This area comes alive in ways that surprised me — early mornings bring elderly folks doing tai chi in the small park nearby, while evenings fill the streets with office workers heading to after-work drinks at tiny pojangmacha stalls. You’re close enough to major subway lines that getting anywhere in Seoul is simple, but far enough from the main tourist drags that you feel like you’re experiencing something authentic. The local convenience store owner started recognizing me after two days, which tells you something about the pace and community feel of this neighborhood.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.1 rating isn’t just numbers — it reflects how this place delivers exactly what thoughtful travelers want without any pretense. The staff genuinely cares about helping you navigate Seoul, offering recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. For the price point, you’re getting location, cleanliness, and that increasingly rare feeling of staying somewhere with actual character. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because leaving feels like saying goodbye to a neighborhood you’ve just started to understand.

Joy Guesthouse: A Comfortable and Convenient Stay in Seoul
Joy Guesthouse, centrally located in Jung-Gu, provided an ideal base for exploring Seoul. Its proximity to bus stops and subway stations made navigating the city a breeze. A short 10-minute walk led us to the vibrant Dongdaemun district, while a short subway ride took us to the bustling Myeongdong.
Mr. Choi, the friendly and accommodating owner, went above and beyond to ensure a smooth trip. He provided essential pre-trip information, including the guesthouse's address and phone number for our K-ETA visa application, lodged online. Additionally, he shared Joy Guesthouse Naver Map location (in Korean) and detailed instructions, including schedules for using airport buses and subways to reach the guesthouse.
While the rooms were compact, they were well-equipped and comfortable. Soft comforters, fresh towels, ample hangers, a convenient weighing scale, a washing machine, microwave, water dispenser and well-stocked pantry with coffee and snacks enhanced our stay.
The surrounding area offered a variety of local eateries as well as a convenience store and a simple bakery.
Overall, Joy Guesthouse provided a comfortable and convenient stay in Seoul. Its prime location, helpful host, well-equipped rooms and affordable prices on Booking.com made it an excellent choice for our trip.Jiyeon from Japan (10/10)

Joy was so nice and such a good host. The room was super cozy and great value for the price really. I’d definitely stay again the next time I go to Korea. The location is really good and so central, surrounded by yummy local food. Felt really safe especially just traveling with me and my mom, there’s so much provided and we just felt so cared for!

The owner was really nice and was very easy to talk to. We were on the 3rd floor so he helped us carry our luggage. I also liked how amenities were self service (Towels, Tissue, etc) and that we could renew every day.

It's not the most luxurious place but it had everything we needed. You get plenty of amenities and the host is incredible! Really helpful, carried our 2 suitcases up to the top floor by himself which he really didn't need to do. We didn't get a chance to leave a post it note on the wall but you'll see, this place has hosted many happy people over the years

The host was incredibly kind, he stayed late to help us check in, and then proceeded to carry x2 of our 12 kilo bags up 4 flights of stairs! Thanks again, it was a great stay, nice location (right next to lots of amazing restaurants) and heated floors!
