Josun Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Seoul Gangnam

The thing that hits you immediately is how they’ve managed to blend traditional Korean aesthetics with seriously modern luxury without making it feel forced or gimmicky. The lobby has these gorgeous wooden panels and subtle lighting that somehow makes you feel calm despite being right in the heart of one of the busiest districts in Seoul. And honestly, the staff here gets it – they’re attentive without hovering, which is harder to find than you’d think. Check-in was smooth (no standing around while they “find your reservation”), and they actually remembered my name when I came back later that evening, which was a nice touch.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to small details that most places skip. The rooms are spacious by Seoul standards – and I mean actually spacious, not just “spacious for Asia” spacious. The beds are incredibly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the blackout curtains are a godsend if you’re dealing with jet lag. The bathroom amenities are top-notch, and there’s plenty of counter space to spread out your stuff, which might sound trivial but becomes important when you’re living out of a suitcase. You know what surprised me most? The soundproofing is exceptional. Even though you’re surrounded by the energy of Gangnam – all the late-night restaurants, the shopping, the general buzz of the area – your room feels like a peaceful retreat. The view from the higher floors is pretty spectacular too, especially at night when the city lights up. I spent more time than I care to admit just sitting by the window with a coffee, watching Seoul do its thing below. The hotel’s restaurant scene is solid without being pretentious, and room service actually arrives hot and on time. Parking can be a bit of a challenge in this neighborhood generally, but they handle it well with valet service that doesn’t make you wait forever to get your car back. If I had one small complaint, it would be that the elevators can get busy during peak check-in hours, but that’s pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.
