Your Seoul Retreat

First Impressions

Walking into JoongRimJae – Hanok feels like stepping back in time — but in the best possible way. This three-star traditional Korean guesthouse sits tucked away in Jung-gu, and honestly, I almost walked past it twice before spotting the entrance. The wooden facade and curved roofline are classic hanok architecture, which means you’re getting the real deal here, not some modern interpretation. It’s intimate and authentic, the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re experiencing Seoul rather than just visiting it.

Location & Getting Around

The location is genuinely fantastic — guests rate it 9.3 out of 10, and I can see why. You’re right in the heart of Jung-gu, which puts you within walking distance of Myeongdong’s shopping chaos and the more serene Namsan Park. What I love about this spot is that you can duck into the hanok’s quiet courtyard and escape the city buzz, then step outside and be back in the action within minutes. The subway connections are solid too, though honestly, half the fun is just wandering the narrow streets around here.

The Traditional Experience

Each room here is designed in traditional Korean style, which means ondol heated floors and low furniture — it takes some getting used to if you’re not familiar with sleeping closer to the ground. The wooden beams and paper screens create this warm, minimalist atmosphere that’s actually pretty calming after a day of sightseeing. I mean, it’s not premium by any stretch, but there’s something special about staying in a building that follows centuries-old design principles. The shared spaces, including a small courtyard, give you plenty of opportunities to chat with other travelers or just sit quietly with some tea.

Practical Considerations

Let me be honest — this isn’t the place if you need a lot of modern amenities or space to spread out. The rooms are compact, and you’ll be sharing bathroom facilities in most cases. But the staff really knows their stuff when it comes to Seoul recommendations, and they’re genuinely helpful with everything from restaurant suggestions to transit tips. The building itself is well-maintained, and while it’s traditional, they’ve managed to blend in modern necessities without ruining the authentic feel. Just pack light — storage space is limited, and you’ll appreciate having less stuff to manage anyway.

Why Guests Love It

Couples especially seem to fall for this place, and I get it — there’s something romantic about the traditional setting and intimate scale. The 8.6 guest rating reflects what you’d expect: people who come here appreciate the cultural experience and authentic atmosphere more than flashy amenities. You know what really sets it apart though? It’s that rare Seoul accommodation where you feel connected to Korean culture rather than just passing through. If you want to understand what traditional Korean living feels like, even just for a night or two, this hanok delivers that experience without feeling like a museum exhibit.

The environment is very tranquil, and the space is comfortable and spacious, making it an ideal vacation spot for families with young children to enjoy peaceful and fun family time. The overall atmosphere, especially at night, is rustic, romantic, and leisurely, making it a very memorable and highly recommended place. Sitting in the yard with a few friends or family in the afternoon or evening, watching the stars, eating, drinking, chatting, and playing cards is very relaxing. We had a wonderful time here. The bubble toys prepared by the host in advance were a big hit with the kids. Additionally, ice water was pre-stocked in the refrigerator, which was perfect for the hot summer days, showing the host's thoughtful care. The interior of the hanok was clean and tidy, with basic toiletries and plenty of pillows and blankets provided. A There are two convenience stores within a three-minute walk nearby, and the staff there are very friendly. The streets near the hanok guesthouse are not busy, and the safety level is quite high. We all felt that this place is very child-friendly and safe for young children. Very charming modernized remodel of a traditional Hanok in a fun neighborhood in Seoul. The place was definitely more "instagram friendly", but not for comfort.
