Hongdae Hanok
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what really surprised me about Hongdae Hanok? I honestly wasn’t expecting to find such an authentic traditional Korean house right in the middle of one of Seoul‘s most chaotic nightlife districts. I mean, walking through Hongik University’s party zone with all the karaoke bars and street food vendors, then suddenly stepping into this peaceful hanok courtyard β it’s like entering a different century.
The place has this incredible 9.8 rating, and after staying there, I totally get why. The owner actually lives on the property and clearly takes pride in maintaining the traditional architecture while sneaking in modern comforts where you need them most. The ondol heated floors are genuinely heated the traditional way (well, sort of β they’ve got modern controls), and sleeping on the yo mattresses was way more comfortable than I expected. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night despite being maybe a five-minute walk from Hongik Playground where all the street performers hang out. The thick hanok walls and traditional courtyard design just seem to absorb all that urban noise.
Honestly, the location is pretty genius when you think about it. During the day, you can wander around this peaceful traditional space, maybe sit in the courtyard with some tea, and actually feel like you’re experiencing old Korea. Then when evening hits β and trust me, you’ll hear when Hongdae comes alive around 9 PM β you’re literally steps away from some of the best nightlife in the city. I actually met some other travelers there who said they’d stayed at fancy hotels in Gangnam but felt like they were missing the real Seoul experience. The host speaks excellent English and has this casual way of dropping recommendations that locals would know β like which entrance to Hongik University subway station is less crowded, or where to get the best hotteok without fighting tourist crowds. The check-in process is refreshingly personal too; none of that sterile hotel lobby nonsense. Just a genuine conversation about what you’re hoping to see in the city and some handwritten notes about nearby gems you won’t find in guidebooks.
To book hotel in Seoul during the vibrant cherry blossom season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts K-culture enthusiasts and modern travelers from around the world.

Een ruime en nette accommodatie. We werden warm ontvangen met een persoonlijk kaartje en versnaperingen. De accommodatie had verder allerlei extraβs. We kwamen niets tekort. Super!
