So here’s the thing about Gangnam Coex – it’s one of those places that really grows on you once you figure out what it’s all about. I’ll be honest, when I first walked in, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot, but this place has character in ways that surprised me. The lobby has this understated, almost minimalist vibe that feels refreshingly unpretentious compared to some of the flashier hotels in the area.

What really won me over, though, is the location – and I mean the real location benefits, not just the obvious stuff. You’re basically in the heart of one of Seoul‘s most dynamic districts, but here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: you’re close enough to COEX Mall that you can actually walk there in about eight minutes (I timed it), which means late-night convenience store runs and decent food options even when jet lag has you up at weird hours. The Bongeunsa Temple is practically around the corner too, which creates this interesting contrast where you’ll hear morning temple bells mixing with the usual city sounds. There’s something oddly peaceful about that.

The rooms themselves are what I’d call “efficiently comfortable” – they’re not huge, but whoever designed them actually thought about how real people use hotel rooms. The beds are surprisingly good quality, and honestly, the shower pressure is better than some 5-star places I’ve stayed at. You know what I really appreciated? The blackout curtains actually work, which is crucial when you’re dealing with all those neon signs outside. Speaking of outside, if you can snag a room on the higher floors, you get glimpses of the Han River between buildings, especially nice in the evening. The neighborhood gets pretty lively at night – not rowdy, just alive with people heading to restaurants and bars – but the windows keep most of the street noise out. Check-in was smooth too, with staff who seem genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. I had questions about getting to Itaewon late at night, and the front desk guy actually wrote down specific subway directions instead of just pointing vaguely toward the station. That 8.8 rating makes total sense when you experience the place – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. For the price point, especially in this part of town, you’re getting solid value and a base that lets you actually explore Seoul properly rather than feeling stuck in some tourist bubble.
