Ellie Stay
Your Seoul Retreat
First Impressions
Walking up to Ellie Stay in Seoul‘s Gangseo district, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical tourist hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. This three-star property sits tucked away on a quiet residential street, but don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you. The moment you step inside, there’s this warm, almost homey atmosphere that feels more like staying at a well-designed friend’s place than a commercial hotel.
The Gangseo Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re actually living like a local instead of being stuck in the touristy areas. Gangseo-gu might not be the first district that comes to mind when you think of Seoul, but that’s precisely why it works so well for couples (and trust me, the guest reviews back this up). You’ve got authentic Korean BBQ joints within walking distance, small cafes where you can practice your Korean with friendly locals, and — this is key — easy access to Gimpo Airport if you’re doing domestic travel. The subway connections aren’t bad either, though you’ll want to factor in about 30-40 minutes to get to the main tourist spots in Myeongdong or Hongdae.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was surprisingly spacious for Seoul standards, with clean lines and that minimalist Korean aesthetic that somehow manages to feel cozy rather than stark. What really impressed me was the attention to detail — proper blackout curtains (essential for jet lag recovery), a small seating area by the window, and a bathroom that actually has decent water pressure. The beds are firm in that Korean way, which took me a night to adjust to, but I actually slept better than I expected. There’s also a small kitchenette setup that’s perfect if you want to grab some ingredients from the local market and try your hand at simple Korean dishes.
Neighborhood Life
You know what surprised me most? How quiet it gets at night, especially compared to the chaos of central Seoul. I mean, you’re still in a city of 10 million people, but this residential pocket has this almost village-like quality after dark. Morning walks around the neighborhood became part of my routine — there’s something really grounding about watching ajummas (Korean aunties) heading to the market and office workers grabbing coffee from the convenience store. It’s real Seoul life, not the Instagram version.
Why Guests Love It
The 9-point rating honestly makes sense once you spend a few nights here. Ellie Stay delivers on the fundamentals without trying to be something it’s not — clean, comfortable, well-located for exploring a different side of Seoul, and priced fairly for what you get. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, and there’s this refreshing lack of pretension that you sometimes encounter at fancier places. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about discovering a neighborhood together rather than just hitting the usual tourist checklist. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve found a little secret in this massive city.

Guest Reviews
Owner is very helpful and always replies quickly whenever I have questions to her. Even though she has all the things listed down in the apartment, but she will repeat telling me when I ask her. Comfy apartment, can fit more than 4 pax if a family to spend time here. Very near to the Botanic Garden, we had great time walking to there everyday.
