The lobby has this clean, minimalist Japanese vibe – which makes sense since Dormy Inn is actually a Japanese chain – and the staff genuinely seemed happy to help rather than just going through the motions. Check-in was smooth, no weird paperwork drama that sometimes happens at smaller places.

What really won me over though was the attention to detail that you don’t usually get at this price point. The rooms are compact (this is Seoul, after all) but everything has its place, and honestly, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected. The bathroom actually had decent water pressure – you’d be surprised how rare that can be in some Seoul hotels. But here’s the kicker: they have this traditional Japanese onsen-style public bath on one of the upper floors. I was skeptical at first because, well, it’s not exactly what you’d expect in Gangnam, but after a long day of walking around the city, soaking in those hot baths was absolutely perfect. They even do this thing where they serve free ramen in the evening – nothing fancy, just good comfort food when you’re too tired to venture out for dinner.

The location is actually pretty smart too. You’re close enough to all the main Gangnam attractions and shopping, but you’re not right on the main drag where it gets absolutely insane with crowds and noise. It’s maybe a 7-8 minute walk to Gangnam Station, which honestly is perfect because you avoid the worst of the tourist madness but still have easy access to the subway. I noticed a lot of business travelers staying there, which usually indicates a place knows how to balance comfort with practicality. The 8.8 rating definitely feels accurate – it’s not luxury, but it delivers way more than you’d expect for what you pay. If you’re looking for something authentic and comfortable without the premium Seoul hotel prices, this place actually gets it right.

  We went to Dormy Inn as we got kind of used to Dormy Inn on our trip through Japan the previous year and were not disappointed and felt home away from home right from the beginning with the friendly staff, relaxing baths and rich and tasty breakfast.

  The basement onsen (communal hot spring bathing) is excellent. It is kept clean and tidy, and the water temperature is almost as hot as it would be in Japan. I was happy that it stays open through the night, as I came back to the hotel late on several occasions.
  I also appreciated having the fee coffee in the entrance lobby. And the free ramen in the evening is a nice touch.
  It is useful that there is a direct subway connection to Gimpo Airport.

  Rooms are small but everything works and the bed is quite big. A good selection at breakfast – Korean, Japanese, Western. Good hybrid Korean sauna & Japanese onsen.
