About this stay

Your Seoul Retreat

Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first saw the name 간공 105, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into. It’s one of those places where the booking photos don’t tell the whole story, you know? But sometimes the best travel experiences come from taking a chance on something that looks a bit rough around the edges.

This basement apartment is actually pretty clever if you think about it – no windows means it’s pitch black when you want to sleep (great for jet lag recovery, honestly), and the fact that it’s underground keeps things surprisingly cool even during those sweltering summer months. The space can technically fit four people, though I’d say it works best for two unless you’re really comfortable with your travel companions. The setup is bare-bones but functional – think more “crash pad” than “romantic getaway.” What really sold me on this place was the subway proximity. I mean, you’re literally steps from Nonhyeon Station, which makes getting around the city incredibly easy. You can hop on the metro and be in Gangnam in minutes, or head over to Hongdae for nightlife without worrying about expensive taxi rides back.

The neighborhood itself has this authentic, lived-in feel that you don’t get in the touristy areas. There’s a 24-hour convenience store right around the corner (lifesaver for late-night snack runs), and some surprisingly good local restaurants that don’t have English menus but serve food that’ll spoil you for the fancy places downtown. The owner was pretty responsive when I had questions, though communication was definitely more gesture-based than conversational – but hey, that’s part of the adventure, right? One thing to note: it can get a bit noisy during rush hours since you’re so close to the station, but the trade-off in convenience is totally worth it. Plus, the white noise from the trains actually helped me sleep better than I expected. This isn’t the kind of place you’d bring your parents to impress them, but if you’re looking for something affordable, practical, and genuinely local, it hits all the marks. Just pack light because storage space is… let’s call it “efficient.”
