Zen House,Jamsil Seoul
Your Seoul Retreat
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked into Zen House, Jamsil Seoul – the name sounds pretty generic, and with a 3-star rating, I figured it’d be your typical budget spot. But you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t try too hard end up surprising you in the best ways.
The thing about staying in Jamsil is that you’re right in the thick of things without the crazy tourist chaos of Myeongdong or Hongdae. I mean, you’ve got Lotte World Tower literally dominating the skyline (you can’t miss it), and the whole Olympic Park area is just a quick subway ride away. What I actually loved about this place was how it felt like staying in a real Seoul neighborhood – you’ll hear ajummas chatting on their way to the market in the morning, and there’s this great 24-hour convenience store right around the corner that became my lifeline for late-night snacks. The hotel itself is pretty straightforward – nothing fancy, but the rooms are clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I stayed on the fourth floor and could actually sleep through the night, which is saying something considering how busy this area gets during the day. The staff tries their best with English, though honestly, having Google Translate ready definitely helps. One thing that struck me was how quiet the hallways were – you know how some budget hotels have paper-thin walls where you hear every conversation? Not really an issue here.
What really works about Zen House is the location more than anything else. You’re walking distance from Jamsil Station, which connects you to basically everywhere you want to go in the city, and if you’re into shopping (or just people-watching), Lotte World Mall is right there. I spent way too much time in that place, honestly. The hotel doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles – no fancy lobby lounge or room service menu – but sometimes you just need a decent place to crash after spending twelve hours wandering around palaces and markets. The bathroom was actually bigger than I expected, with one of those powerful Korean showerheads that’ll wake you right up in the morning. I will say, don’t expect five-star service here – it’s more of a “here’s your key, Wi-Fi password is on the desk” kind of place. But for the price point and the location, especially if you’re someone who’s going to be out exploring most of the day anyway, it does the job well. Just manage your expectations and you’ll probably leave feeling like you got decent value for your money in a city where accommodation can get pretty pricey pretty fast.
Best hotels in Seoul range from luxurious properties in the upscale Gangnam district to boutique hotels with stunning views of Namsan Tower and the Han River.
