Wecostay Chungmuro

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Wecostay Chungmuro, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? This little gem completely changed my mind about mid-range hotels in Seoul. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it that actually works in its favor. The lobby has this clean, minimalist vibe that feels more like a trendy hostel than your typical business hotel, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to help rather than just going through the motions.

What really sold me on this place was the location – and I mean the real location benefits, not just “convenient to everything.” You’re right in the heart of Seoul’s creative district, surrounded by these narrow streets filled with indie bookshops, tiny galleries, and the kind of local restaurants where you’ll be the only tourist. I spent hours just wandering around the neighborhood, stumbling onto little alleyways I never would’ve found if I’d stayed in the more obvious hotel districts. The Chungmuro subway station is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which means you can get anywhere in the city without dealing with the tourist crowds at places like Myeongdong station. Actually, that’s probably my favorite thing about staying here – you feel like you’re experiencing the real Seoul, not the sanitized version.

The rooms themselves are pretty solid for the price point. Nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s spotlessly clean. I mean, Korean hotels generally have their cleaning game down pat, but this place takes it seriously. The beds are firm (which I personally love), and they’ve got those heated bathroom floors that you don’t realize you need until you experience them in Seoul’s winters. My room faced the street, and honestly, it can get a bit noisy with the morning traffic, but I’m a heavy sleeper so it didn’t bother me much. If you’re sensitive to sound, maybe request a room facing away from the main road. The WiFi is fast enough to handle video calls, which is more than I can say for some pricier hotels I’ve stayed at. One small thing – the shower pressure is fantastic, which might seem trivial but after long days of walking around the city, it’s exactly what you want. With an 8.9 rating, clearly other people are noticing these details too. It’s not going to wow you with luxury, but Wecostay Chungmuro does all the basics really well and gives you that authentic neighborhood experience that’s getting harder to find in Seoul’s increasingly touristy hotel scene.
