Trendo
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Trendo – honestly, the name had me thinking it might be one of those trying-too-hard boutique places. But I was pleasantly surprised by how genuine and unpretentious it actually turned out to be. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feel that immediately puts you at ease, with mismatched vintage furniture that somehow works perfectly together and local artwork that doesn’t scream “hotel art.” The staff behind the front desk genuinely seemed happy to see guests walk in, which is rarer than you’d think these days.
What really won me over, though, was how well they’ve managed to punch above their weight class. Sure, it’s a three-star property, but they’ve clearly put thought into the details that actually matter to travelers. The rooms are compact but cleverly designed – I mean, they’ve got these built-in charging stations right where you’d naturally set your phone, and the shower pressure was honestly better than some luxury hotels I’ve stayed at. The beds are properly comfortable too, not just decent hotel-comfortable. I slept like a rock both nights, even though I’m usually pretty sensitive to unfamiliar mattresses. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls could be a touch thicker – you might hear your neighbors if they’re particularly chatty – but it wasn’t disruptive enough to really bother me.
Here’s the thing that really impressed me: they’ve created this authentic neighborhood vibe without trying to manufacture it. You’ll find locals hanging out in their little café area in the mornings, which tells you everything you need to know about a place. The coffee is actually good (not just hotel-lobby drinkable), and they’ve got these amazing pastries from a bakery somewhere nearby that I never did track down. Parking was straightforward – there’s a small lot behind the building that never seemed full when I was there. Check-in was smooth, maybe five minutes total, and they had genuine recommendations for dinner spots rather than just handing over the usual tourist pamphlet. I ended up at this incredible little tapas place two blocks away that I never would have found on my own. Honestly, for the price point and the genuine hospitality, Trendo delivers exactly what you want from a solid neighborhood hotel – comfort, character, and that feeling like you’ve discovered something real rather than just another corporate box.
