There’s this incredible dakgalbi place about three blocks away that I stumbled upon around 2 AM – the kind of spot where salarymen go to decompress after work. During the day, you can easily walk to Myeongdong’s main drag for all that duty-free shopping, but at night, you retreat back to this quieter pocket where locals actually live and eat.

The rooms themselves are pretty standard Travelodge fare – clean, functional, nothing fancy but everything works. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff), and the bathrooms are compact but well-designed. What I appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re in the heart of the city. The walls seem decently soundproofed, though you’ll still hear some street noise if you’re a super light sleeper. The staff at check-in spoke decent English, which was helpful, and they had these little neighborhood maps with handwritten recommendations that felt genuinely useful rather than just promotional fluff. The Wi-Fi actually worked well throughout the building – I was working remotely during part of my stay and never had connection issues.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re not getting luxury, but you’re getting something better: authenticity with convenience. The 7.7 rating feels about right to me. It’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies, but it delivers exactly what you need. The elevator is a bit slow (classic Seoul building quirk), and the breakfast situation is pretty basic, but honestly, with all the incredible street food and 24-hour convenience stores right outside, you don’t really need much more. I found myself grabbing hotteok from a cart literally around the corner most mornings anyway. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to experience Seoul like someone who actually lives there – hopping between traditional markets, late-night food alleys, and genuine neighborhood spots – rather than just hitting the major tourist checkboxes, this place puts you in exactly the right position to do that.
