Stay Midcentury
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what caught me off guard about Stay Midcentury? The moment I walked through those doors, it actually felt like stepping into someone’s perfectly curated 1960s living room – but in the best possible way. I mean, we’re talking authentic mid-century modern furniture that isn’t just there for show, comfortable seating areas with those iconic low-slung chairs, and lighting fixtures that probably cost more than my car payment. The whole vibe is so thoughtfully put together that you can tell someone really cared about getting the details right, not just slapping a retro theme on generic hotel furniture.
Honestly, for a 3-star place, they punch way above their weight in the style department. The rooms have this warm, lived-in feeling – and I don’t mean worn out, I mean like you’re staying at your impossibly cool aunt’s house who has impeccable taste. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many boutique places sacrifice comfort for aesthetics), and there’s something refreshing about the clean lines and uncluttered spaces after staying in so many cookie-cutter chain hotels. The staff seems to get what they’re going for too – they’re friendly without being overly formal, which fits the whole relaxed-but-sophisticated thing they have going on.
Look, I’ll be straight with you – that 7.7 rating feels about right. It’s not luxury by any stretch, and you might notice some quirks here and there (the bathroom in my room had this vintage-style faucet that took me a minute to figure out). But there’s something genuinely charming about staying somewhere that has a clear personality instead of trying to be everything to everyone. If you’re the type of person who gets excited about design details and appreciates when a place commits to its concept, you’ll probably love it here. Plus, honestly, it’s kind of nice to stay somewhere that feels like it belongs in a design magazine but doesn’t have the pretentious attitude that usually comes with that territory. Just don’t expect cutting-edge amenities – this is more about soaking up the atmosphere and feeling like you’re part of something with actual character.

Great location at the center of Itaewon, tucked away in a small alley so it's not too noisy from the main nightlife area. Access to the rooftop was nice, allowing us to hangout and get some fresh air.
