The check-in was actually pleasant, which sounds like such a small thing until you’ve been traveling for 15 hours and just want to drop your bags. The lobby has this clean, minimalist vibe – very Japanese influenced, which makes sense given the Sotetsu brand – and there’s something refreshing about that simplicity when you step in from the neon-soaked madness outside.

What I really appreciated was how the rooms feel bigger than they probably are. The design is smart – everything has its place, the bed is comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom actually has decent water pressure. You can hear some street noise if you’re a really light sleeper, but honestly, that’s just Myeong-dong for you. The area never fully sleeps, and there’s something kind of energizing about falling asleep to the distant sounds of late-night street food vendors and people wandering around shopping. Plus, you’re literally steps away from some of the best Korean BBQ spots and those tiny makeup stores that somehow stay open until midnight. I found myself just walking out the front door and immediately being in the thick of everything – no subway rides needed to get to Myeongdong Cathedral or to grab some hotteok from the street vendors. The hotel’s 8.6 rating feels about right to me; it’s not trying to be luxury, but it nails what business travelers and tourists actually need. Clean, reliable, well-located, and the kind of place where you can actually get a good night’s sleep before tackling another day of exploring the city.
