Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of business hotels in Seoul, and Shilla Stay Gangnam Yeoksam is honestly one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. You know what I mean? It’s tucked into the Yeoksam area – which, if you’re not familiar with Seoul, is basically where all the tech companies and finance folks hang out during the day, but it gets surprisingly quiet at night.

The thing that struck me first walking into the lobby was how they managed to make a 4-star place feel both sleek and actually comfortable. Not like those sterile chain hotels where everything’s beige and you’re afraid to touch anything. The rooms are what I’d call “smart small” – they’ve figured out how to fit everything you need without making you feel like you’re living in a closet. The bed was genuinely good (I’m picky about this stuff), and there’s enough desk space to spread out your laptop without shoving everything else onto the floor. Actually, the whole tech setup impressed me – USB ports where you actually need them, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every twenty minutes, that sort of thing.

What really sold me on this place though was the location game. You’re maybe a five-minute walk from Yeoksam Station, which connects you to basically everywhere you want to go in the city. But here’s the insider bit – there’s this whole network of underground shopping and food courts that locals use, especially when it’s raining or freezing cold. Once you figure that out, you can get around without ever going outside. The neighborhood has this interesting double life too. During business hours, it’s all suits and coffee shops, but in the evening you get these great little restaurants and bars that aren’t touristy at all. I found this incredible Korean BBQ place literally two blocks away that I never would have discovered if I’d stayed in the main tourist areas.

Honestly, with a 7.9 rating, I was expecting something decent but not spectacular – sometimes those middle ratings mean a place is just okay at everything. But this felt more like they’re doing the important stuff really well without the flashy extras that jack up the price. The staff actually seemed to know what they were doing (quick check-in, helpful with directions, didn’t hover), and the whole place just ran smoothly. You know how some hotels have that slightly chaotic energy where you’re never quite sure if your key card will work? None of that here.

If you’re in Seoul for business or just want to experience a more authentic side of the city without being stuck in some corporate wasteland, this is a solid choice. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it’ll take care of you properly while you’re exploring one of the most interesting neighborhoods in the city. Just don’t expect a pool or fancy spa – this is about location, comfort, and getting the basics absolutely right.
