Seoul Olympic Parktel
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what caught me off guard about Seoul Olympic Parktel? It’s actually got this unexpectedly cozy vibe for a place with “Olympic” in the name – I was bracing myself for some massive, sterile complex, but honestly, it feels more like a well-run neighborhood spot that just happens to be near where all the 1988 Olympics action went down. The lobby’s got this sort of retro charm that works without trying too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed to remember my name after the second day, which doesn’t happen often at three-star places.
The location is really what makes this place shine, though. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from Olympic Park, which sounds touristy but is actually where half of Seoul goes to jog, walk their dogs, or just escape the city madness for a bit. I found myself cutting through the park every morning just because it beat taking the subway – there’s something pretty magical about starting your day watching elderly folks doing tai chi by the lake, then fifteen minutes later you’re in the thick of Gangnam. The rooms are solid – nothing fancy, but the beds are surprisingly comfortable and the bathrooms are bigger than what you’d expect. I appreciated that they actually have decent water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss even at pricier Seoul hotels.
What really won me over was the practical stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. There’s a 24-hour convenience store right next door (the kind where you can grab decent coffee at 6 AM or emergency ramen at midnight), and the subway connection to Mongchontoseong Station is maybe a seven-minute walk – close enough to be convenient but far enough that you’re not dealing with subway noise. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel where you’ll find little Korean BBQ joints tucked between office buildings, and I stumbled across this incredible bakery two blocks over that locals were lining up at every morning. The hotel’s 8.4 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it nails the basics and throws in enough character that you actually want to come back at the end of the day. Plus, and this might sound small, but they have really good WiFi throughout the building, which saved me from having to work in coffee shops when I needed to get things done.
Best hotels in Seoul range from luxurious properties in the upscale Gangnam district to boutique hotels with stunning views of Namsan Tower and the Han River.
