Royal Hotel Seoul
Your Seoul Retreat
So I’ve stayed at the Royal Hotel Seoul a couple of times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that just gets it right without making a big fuss about it. You know what I mean? When I first walked into the lobby, I was expecting something maybe a bit stuffy given the “Royal” name, but it’s actually got this warm, understated elegance that feels more welcoming than intimidating. The marble floors are polished to perfection, sure, but the lighting is soft and the staff genuinely smile when they see you – not that practiced hotel smile, but the real deal.
What really won me over was how they handle the little things that other four-star places sometimes miss. The elevators are surprisingly quiet (trust me, this matters when you’re jet-lagged and trying to sleep), and the hallways have this subtle Korean aesthetic woven in – nothing over the top, just these beautiful celadon accents and traditional patterns that remind you where you are without hitting you over the head with it. My room was on the eighth floor, and I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it felt. The bed was exactly the right firmness – not too soft, not like sleeping on concrete – and the blackout curtains actually worked, which is a miracle in Seoul where the city lights can be pretty intense at night. I mean, the air conditioning was a bit aggressive at first, but once I figured out the controls (took me about ten minutes of button pressing, not gonna lie), it was perfect.
The breakfast spread deserves a mention because it strikes this nice balance between international options and Korean favorites – you can get your standard eggs and toast, but also some really good kimchi jjigae and fresh banchan that actually tastes homemade. I watched the chef making fresh pajeon one morning, and it was clear they weren’t just phoning it in. The coffee’s decent too, though if you’re a serious coffee person, there’s this little café about two blocks away that locals frequent – way better than hotel coffee, obviously. What I really appreciate about this place is the rating of 8.3 feels spot-on; it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but it delivers consistently on what a solid four-star should be. The Wi-Fi works everywhere (even in the elevator), the housekeeping is thorough without being intrusive, and the front desk staff actually know the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the touristy stuff. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable coming back after a long day of exploring, and that’s honestly what matters most when you’re traveling.
Early hotels booking in Seoul requires advance planning during peak tourist seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s legendary palaces, shopping districts, and Korean cultural attractions.
