Raon Seoul
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what caught me off guard about Raon Seoul? Walking in, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – I mean, we’ve all been burned by those overly optimistic online photos before. But this little gem actually delivers on its promises, and then some. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels genuinely Korean rather than trying to copy some international chain’s playbook. There’s something refreshing about a hotel that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else.
The location works really well if you want to experience Seoul like someone who actually lives here rather than just hitting the major tourist traps. I found myself wandering through neighborhoods I probably would have missed otherwise, stumbling across these incredible local restaurants where the ajumma behind the counter doesn’t speak a word of English but somehow manages to serve you the best kimchi jjigae of your life. The subway connections are solid – not right on top of a station (which can be noisy anyway), but close enough that you’re not dragging your luggage for blocks. Parking was surprisingly straightforward too, which anyone who’s driven in Seoul will tell you is basically a minor miracle.
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making sure guests had a good experience. Check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or awkward upselling attempts, and they actually had useful recommendations beyond the obvious places everyone already knows about. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Seoul, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with plenty of storage and those little touches that show someone was paying attention. The bathroom setup is particularly clever, maximizing space without feeling cramped. Honestly, I’ve stayed in supposedly fancier places that felt more sterile and less comfortable. The soundproofing is decent too, which matters more than you might think when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag and there’s city life happening right outside. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra day just because you’re comfortable and don’t want to deal with the hassle of finding somewhere else.
