Rainbow Hotel Yongsan Overview
Look, I’ll be honest with you – Rainbow Hotel Yongsan isn’t going to win any design awards, but there’s something oddly charming about this little 3-star spot that keeps drawing me back when I’m in Seoul. It sits in this interesting pocket of Yongsan-gu where you’re close enough to hear the occasional rumble of trains heading to the station, but not so close that it’ll keep you up at night (well, unless you’re a really light sleeper). The lobby has this sort of retro vibe – not intentionally vintage, mind you, just genuinely from another era – with marble floors that echo when you walk across them in the early morning quiet.
What I actually love about this place is how unpretentious it is. The staff at the front desk genuinely seem to care about helping you figure out the subway system, and they’ve got this little printed map with handwritten notes that’s honestly more useful than anything you’ll find on your phone. The rooms are, well, they’re perfectly fine – clean sheets, decent shower pressure, and air conditioning that works when Seoul gets brutally humid in summer. I mean, you’re not getting luxury here with that 6.7 rating, but everything functions the way it should. The beds are actually more comfortable than you’d expect, though the pillows are a bit on the firm side if that matters to you.
Here’s the thing that makes this spot work – you’re right in the heart of Yongsan, which means you can walk to some seriously good Korean BBQ places that tourists never find because they’re busy hitting up Myeongdong. There’s this incredible galbi joint about three blocks east that locals line up for on weekends, and honestly, staying here puts you in the perfect position to stumble back after a proper Korean drinking session. The area gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, which I’ve learned to appreciate after staying in louder parts of the city. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’ve rented a car – there are only a few spots behind the building, but street parking isn’t impossible if you’re patient. The whole Yongsan district has this working neighborhood feel that I find more authentic than the flashier hotel areas, and you’re still just a quick subway ride from anywhere you actually want to go sightseeing. Rainbow Hotel Yongsan won’t blow your mind, but it’ll give you a solid base to explore from without breaking your budget.

It’s literally next to Namyeong station. Receptionist is supportive even though they don’t speak fluent English. Gave 3 bottles of water in the room. That’s a big surprise.

Good location by taking the bus or walking distance "if we like walking"
The Seoul station is about 7mn by taxi or 20mn by walking.
