Mondrian Seoul Itaewon Overview
You know what struck me first about the Mondrian Seoul Itaewon? It’s got this unexpected sophistication that somehow fits perfectly with the eclectic chaos of the neighborhood around it. I mean, Itaewon has always been this fascinating mix of expat bars, Korean BBQ joints, and late-night energy, but this place manages to float above all that while still feeling connected to it.
The design is honestly pretty stunning – they’ve taken that signature Mondrian aesthetic and adapted it for Seoul in a way that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. The lobby has these clean lines and bold color accents that remind you you’re somewhere special, but it’s not so over-the-top that you feel underdressed walking through. What I really appreciated was how the rooms manage to be sleek without being cold – there’s actual warmth in the materials they’ve chosen, and the city views are genuinely impressive, especially if you snag one facing toward the Han River. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with rainfall showers that actually have proper water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue even in nice hotels).
Location-wise, you’re right in the heart of everything that makes Seoul’s international district tick. You can walk to some of the best Korean fusion restaurants in the city, plus there’s easy access to Itaewon Station if you want to explore other neighborhoods. I actually ended up spending more time just wandering the streets around the hotel than I initially planned – there’s this whole network of smaller alleys with hidden coffee shops and vintage stores that you stumble across. The staff really knows their stuff too, which matters when you’re trying to navigate a city this size. They gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on, not just the obvious tourist traps. Check-in was smooth, and honestly, the whole experience felt more like staying somewhere that locals would actually choose rather than just another international chain going through the motions. With an 8.3 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why – it strikes that sweet spot between luxury and authenticity that’s surprisingly hard to find in a neighborhood that could easily lean too touristy.

Good choice. Would have liked a pot for tea rather than just a cup
Ross from United Kingdom (8/10)
Very comfortable bed and I slept very well. Nice view from a high room, looking over the river. Very smart hotel, feels very fancy.

breakfast is good and the location also.
Dona from New Zealand (8/10)
The decor was great. But the room itself it’s small for a five star, very compacted room design. Feel a bit claustrophobic. During the check-in we had to wait for 40mins, the staff was very slow. This is the first time I had to wait to be check-in a hotel which is rather ridiculous.
Katarzyna from United Kingdom (7/10)
The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet. The indoor swimming pool is large and very pleasant, though it is a shame that guests cannot use sauna nor hair dryers/body lotions. There is a nice cafe on the lower floor so easy to grab a coffee and pastries if you don’t have breakfast.
