Memory Stay Seoul Jongro Hanok Overview
You know what really surprised me about Memory Stay Seoul Jongro Hanok? I honestly went in expecting one of those tourist-trap “traditional” hotels that feels more like a theme park than an actual place to sleep, but this spot is genuinely different. The moment you step through the entrance, there’s this immediate sense of calm that just washes over you – which is pretty remarkable considering you’re right in the heart of Seoul‘s bustling Jongro district.
The hanok architecture here isn’t just for show, either. I mean, they’ve obviously modernized things (thank god, because traditional ondol heating can be a nightmare in winter), but they kept all the elements that actually matter. The wooden beams overhead, the way natural light filters through the hanji paper screens, even the subtle creaking sounds the building makes – it all feels authentic without being uncomfortable. What really got me was how quiet it stays despite being surrounded by the city. The traditional courtyard design actually blocks out most of the street noise, which is something you don’t realize you need until you’re trying to sleep in central Seoul. The rooms themselves strike this perfect balance between respecting the traditional aesthetic and giving you modern conveniences. You’ll find heated floors (a godsend in Korean winters), proper bathrooms, and decent Wi-Fi, but everything’s integrated so thoughtfully that it never feels jarring or out of place.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I booked: the location is actually incredible if you know how to use it. You’re walking distance from Insadong’s tea houses and galleries, but more importantly, you’re close to some of the best late-night food spots that locals actually go to – not just the tourist strips. There’s this tiny gamjatang place about three blocks away that stays open until 4 AM, and honestly, stumbling back to the hanok after a night out feels like stepping back in time in the best possible way. The staff here really knows their stuff too, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate Seoul’s maze-like neighborhoods. They’ll give you actual directions instead of just pointing at a map, and they seem to genuinely care about whether you find what you’re looking for. I stayed during cherry blossom season (which, let’s be real, is when every hotel in Seoul jacks up their prices), but even then it felt like good value for what you get. The 9.4 rating this place has? Yeah, I get it now. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it delivers on this specific experience better than anywhere else I’ve stayed in Seoul.
Best hotels in Seoul range from luxurious properties in the upscale Gangnam district to boutique hotels with stunning views of Namsan Tower and the Han River.

The property is nice, clean and very cosy. It is exactly what we hoped for- a modern hanok. The host was super friendly and efficient in communication (my apologies I didn't reply emails quickly). The host also provided a free cleaning of the property during our stay.
The location of the property is another highlight. It is close to metro stations, 7-11 and CU Shop. Also the surroundings are very traditional Korean community and the royal palace is just 5-10 mins walking distance.Dayan from Australia (9/10)
Clean and comfortable, very well equipped with everything we needed including laundry facilities.
Editha from Australia (10/10)
Beautiful Hanok close to the Gyeongbukgong Palace (20 min walk). Place suited a family of 5 and still allowed for privacy. It had great facilities and tools, super neat and clean.
Marielys from Puerto Rico (8/10)
It was a beautiful property

Traditional Hanok with modern need
Christina from Singapore (10/10)
Such a pretty lovely house located right at Sejong Food Street where there are tons of eateries filled with locals eating drinking, having their rounds 2, 3, just like in Kdramas. Something in the Rain was filmed here & it's a stonethrow away from Gyeongbukgong & Tosokchon. The house is very newly renovated, we even settled most of our laundry here to reduce the load when we get home, they even have games for us to play together. When we went to collect our luggage before heading to the airport, even though they were cleaning, they actually offered to make a cup of hot tea for my mum but just then, our ride came. Touched by their hospitality too! Highly recommended!
