L7 MYEONGDONG by LOTTE

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into L7 MYEONGDONG by LOTTE, I wasn’t expecting much from another chain hotel. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this sleek, minimalist vibe that feels distinctly Korean without trying too hard, and there’s something about the lighting that just makes you feel more awake and energized rather than that sterile hotel feeling you get sometimes.

What really got me though was how perfectly positioned this place is for exploring Seoul. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Myeongdong – step outside and you’re immediately surrounded by all those skincare shops, street food vendors, and the kind of organized chaos that makes Korean shopping districts so addictive. The thing is, most hotels in this area can be pretty noisy, but somehow the L7 manages to keep things surprisingly quiet once you’re up in your room. I think it’s the way the building is designed, sort of set back from the main pedestrian areas.

The rooms themselves are what I’d call “smart small” – you know how Japanese and Korean hotels have figured out how to make compact spaces feel functional rather than cramped? That’s exactly what they’ve done here. Everything has its place, the bed is actually comfortable (not always a given), and honestly, the bathroom situation is better than hotels twice the price in other cities. Plus, there’s this attention to detail that you notice after a day or two – like how the outlets are positioned so you can actually use your phone while it’s charging in bed, or how the curtains block out light completely when you need to recover from a late night in Hongdae.

You know what really sealed it for me though? The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood. When I asked about finding a good Korean BBQ place that wasn’t a tourist trap, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic map – he drew me a little route to this place tucked away in an alley that ended up being one of my best meals in Seoul. That kind of local knowledge makes all the difference, especially when you’re dealing with a city that can feel overwhelming if you don’t know where to look.
