I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Jongno Lumia Tourist Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes these smaller hotels surprise you in the best ways, and this one definitely did. The lobby has this understated, clean vibe that immediately put me at ease, and the staff actually seemed genuinely happy to see guests arrive (which, let’s face it, isn’t always a given in busy Seoul).

What really won me over was the attention to detail throughout the place. The rooms are compact – I mean, this is Seoul, so space is premium – but they’ve maximized every inch intelligently. The beds are surprisingly comfortable with crisp linens, and honestly, after long days exploring the palaces and markets, that’s what mattered most to me. The bathrooms are spotless with decent water pressure, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how often hotels mess that up. I loved that the windows actually open (rare in many modern hotels), so you can get some fresh air instead of being stuck with recycled AC all the time. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, so I slept better here than at some fancier places I’ve stayed in noisier parts of the city.

Being in the Jongno area is actually perfect if you want to experience both traditional and modern Seoul without constantly jumping on the subway. You can walk to Insadong’s tea houses and art galleries in about ten minutes, and the night markets around here have some of the best street food – try the hotteok from the cart just two blocks down, trust me on this. The hotel staff gave me a hand-drawn map with local recommendations that was way more useful than any glossy tourist brochure. With an 8.5 rating, this place clearly knows what it’s doing, and after staying here, I get why guests keep coming back. It’s not trying to be flashy or trendy – it’s just a solid, well-run hotel that makes you feel comfortable and gives you a real base to explore from, rather than feeling like you’re stuck in some generic tourist bubble.

  The Hotel was clean. The location was perfect, 5 mins away from Sinseoldong Underground. Although it is located in an alley, me being a solo female traveller, I was a bit anxious before getting there, but all my worries disappeared as it is a safe area, so if you are a solo female traveller like me, do not worry at all! The room has everything you need, the bed was comfy. There is a nice room next to the reception where you can sit and eat your food in the evening if you feel like it, with a coffee and tea machine and an ice machine too. There are also 2 massage chairs. Overall, I was really happy with my stay!

  I had stayed at Jongno Lumia previously in March 2023. I really enjoyed the comforts and the location it offered for my stay in Seoul then and this time around it was as equally well located and comfortable. I would say a few things are starting to feel the wear and tear of a well used hotel but nothing that affected the comfort of my stay. It is located along subway line number one with options to two subway stops within five minutes walking distance. The location is out of the touristy area and more amongst local Seoul citizens and a huge daily outdoor market. It is surrounded by everything you require when it comes to food/restaurants and necessities, including grocery stores and cafés. A short walk up a local hill gives access to beautiful views overlooking Seoul. There is also a wonderful temple and Buddhist statue perched on the hill that I had the pleasure of waking up to and looking at every morning. There is also an amazing spa chair you can easily access in the lobby that I thoroughly enjoyed every evening after getting in my 20 to 30,000 steps hiking around this fascinating city. As I will be travelling to Seoul again in the future, I will without hesitation book Jongno Lumia again, and would recommend it to other travelers.
