Hotel New Oriental Myeongdong
Your Seoul Retreat
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel New Oriental Myeongdong, you immediately get that feeling of stepping into a well-maintained three-star property that actually cares about the details. The lobby isn’t huge or flashy, but it’s clean and welcoming — honestly, that’s exactly what you want after a long flight into Seoul. The staff greets you in both Korean and English, and I noticed they genuinely seem to remember returning guests’ names, which is a nice touch you don’t always get at hotels in this price range.
The Myeongdong Advantage
Here’s what really sets this place apart — the location is absolutely unbeatable. You’re literally in the heart of Myeongdong, which means you can roll out of bed and be shopping or eating street food within two minutes. I mean, the subway station is practically next door, and you know how important that is when you’re trying to explore Seoul efficiently. What surprised me most was how quiet the room stays despite being surrounded by all that action — the windows do a solid job of keeping the street noise out.
Room Experience
The rooms are compact but smartly designed, which is pretty much what you’d expect in this part of Seoul. Everything feels fresh and updated — the bedding is comfortable, and the bathroom is small but functional with good water pressure. There’s enough space for two people and their luggage without feeling cramped, though you’re definitely not going to be doing yoga in here. The air conditioning works well (crucial during Seoul summers), and the free Wi-Fi is actually fast enough for video calls back home. The thoughtful layout maximizes every inch of space.
Exploring the Neighborhood
What I love about staying here is that you’re surrounded by some of Seoul’s best food without having to venture far. The famous Myeongdong street food market is right outside — you can grab hotteok or tteokbokki whenever the mood strikes. For sit-down meals, there’s a solid Korean BBQ place just around the corner that locals actually frequent, not just tourists. The shopping is obviously incredible too, with everything from cosmetics stores to department stores within walking distance. You’ll find yourself discovering new spots every time you step outside.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it comes down to location and value — this hotel delivers both without any pretense. Couples especially seem to appreciate how easy it makes exploring Seoul together, and I can see why the location scores so highly with guests. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use, but you’re getting a clean, comfortable base in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The staff is helpful with directions and recommendations, and there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on doing the basics really well rather than trying to be something it’s not. It’s the kind of place you’d happily return to.
Apartments in Seoul provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional Korean markets and experience daily life in modern residential neighborhoods.
