Hong stay
Your Seoul Retreat
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Hong stay, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes these smaller spots really surprise you, and this one definitely did. The moment I walked through the lobby, there was this immediate sense that the owners actually care about what they’re doing here. It’s not flashy or trying too hard, just clean, comfortable, and run by people who seem to genuinely want you to have a good time.
What really struck me was how the staff remembers your name after like, one conversation. I mean, that doesn’t happen at the big chain hotels where you’re just another room number. The front desk guy – I think his name was David – actually remembered I was there for a work trip and asked how my meetings went when I came back the second evening. Small thing, but it made the whole stay feel more personal. The rooms themselves are honestly better maintained than some 4-star places I’ve stayed at recently. Everything works (and I’m the type who tests every light switch and drawer), the beds are actually comfortable – not too soft, not too firm – and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which is more than I can say for that expensive place I stayed at last month.
Here’s something I really appreciated: they don’t nickel and dime you for everything. The WiFi is fast and free, there’s a proper coffee setup in the room (not just those tiny pods that make terrible coffee), and when I needed to print some documents, they just did it without making a big deal about it. The location works well too – it’s in one of those neighborhoods where you can actually walk around and find good local food without having to take a taxi everywhere. There’s this little noodle place about two blocks away that the hotel staff recommended, and it was absolutely perfect. I ended up eating there three times during my stay. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re a light sleeper, pack some earplugs – though honestly, it wasn’t really disruptive, just something to keep in mind. Overall, Hong stay is one of those places that reminds you why sometimes the smaller, family-run spots can be way better than the corporate giants. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels genuine and comfortable without breaking the bank, this is definitely worth booking.
