Hans House Overview
You know what, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hans House – I mean, it’s a 3-star place and honestly, those can go either way. But this little gem actually surprised me in the best possible way. The building has this understated charm that feels more like staying at a well-kept family home than some cookie-cutter hotel chain. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try too hard but still manages to get all the important stuff right.
What really struck me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making sure you’re comfortable. The check-in was smooth – no rushing, no attitude – and they actually took time to give me useful local tips without me having to ask. The room itself was clean and thoughtfully arranged, nothing fancy but everything worked properly (you’d be amazed how rare that is these days). The bed was actually comfortable, which I always worry about at smaller places, and the bathroom had decent water pressure. I appreciated the little touches too – proper hangers in the closet, enough outlets for charging devices, and curtains that actually block out light when you want to sleep in.
Here’s the thing though – this place really shines because of its personality. It’s got that cozy, lived-in feeling without being worn down, if that makes sense. The common areas feel inviting rather than sterile, and there’s usually a pleasant buzz of other travelers sharing stories or planning their next move. I spent more time than expected just hanging out in the lobby area with a coffee, watching the neighborhood come to life in the morning. The location works well too – you’re not stuck in some tourist bubble, but you’re also not stranded somewhere inconvenient. Walking around the area gave me a real sense of the local rhythm, which is exactly what I want when I’m exploring somewhere new. Honestly, for the price point, Hans House delivers way more character and genuine hospitality than those big chain hotels that charge twice as much for half the soul. If you’re looking for a place that feels authentic and treats you like a person rather than a room number, this is definitely worth considering.

The location was great. Just a couple of minutes away from Gyeongbokgung Palace, bus station and the food alley. The owner was awesome, very nice and very helpful. Highly recommended! We spent Christmas Eve at the house and Mr. Han gave us rice cake and fruits. A sweet gesture that we really appreciate. My kids enjoyed playing at the garden as well especially during the snowfall on Christmas Day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mr. Han's place. Our host is a lovely man who went above and beyond for us. He met us on the street to ensure that we didn't get lost, served us fruit and snacks on two separate occasions, recommended places to visit, and even lent us equipment to help with my husband's injured knee.
We were welcome to use the kitchen, though we didn't need to except to store leftovers in the refrigerator and boil water for the instant coffee (and tea) that was ready available. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and toothpaste, as well as towels were provided.
The share house is in a quiet neighborhood and is 2 small blocks away from a food street, so we only had to take a short walk to get food. In fact, we had dinner here everyday for the duration of our stay.
My husband especially loved sleeping on the tatami mattress on the floor.Thorsten from Germany (9/10)
The location was absolutely stunning – 2 minutes walk from a street food alley, 10 minutes from the big palace; but without the hustle and bustle you would expect. The garden is a hidden gem; the room was clean and spotless; coffee and cold bottled water for free. Mr. Han provided great information how to find the location and was an absolute great host (when he saw me having a drink in the garden he returned with some salty crackers to accompany the drink). When I would return to Seoul staying north of Han-river I would choose this location again!

We stayed at Hans House for the 1st time when we visited Seoul in Dec'22. In our recent trip to Seoul in Jun'24, we stayed at Hans House again. No regrets. Location is great and the host is just as friendly and hospitable. Cosy and comfortable, a great place to wind down after a day of touring. Will definitely stay here again for our next visit!

The location was amazing. So close to the place and Buchon Hanok village. Lots of good food around. 5 min to subway and bus station with express bus to the airport.
The host was very friendly and helpful and let me drop my luggage off in the morning.Yi from China (9/10)

The house is located in a beautiful neighborhood, which is quiet and safe.
I had no issues walking back by myself in the evening. It is also within walking distance from the royal palaces, Bukchon village, and other traditional sites. The underground station is also just a few minutes away. There are a lot of restaurants and places to get a drink in the evening just a couple of steps away.
The host is incredibly welcoming, took time to provide useful information and even gave me a map and guidebook of Seoul. On one occasion he even offered some fresh fruit and bean milk, which made for a nice breakfast. If I needed something, he would make sure to provide it asap.
The room I stayed in was small but comfortable, and the bathroom had everything, from shampoo to clean towels. Just be aware of the korean style shower (which is comfortable, as long as you remember to remove anything that might get wet).
The shared kitchen is always clean and tidy, and there's a lovely garden where you can sit when the weather allows it.Theresa from Germany (9/10)
