Hanok Bookclub House
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what? I stumbled across Hanok Bookclub House almost by accident, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you’re in on some local secret. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about what travelers actually want – not just a place to sleep, but somewhere that feels like a story worth telling.
The whole concept is pretty brilliant, actually. It’s like someone took the cozy corner of your favorite independent bookstore and turned it into a place you can actually stay. Books are everywhere – I mean everywhere – but not in that overwhelming library way. More like they’re part of the furniture, scattered on side tables, stacked by reading nooks, creating these little pockets where you can just sink in with a cup of tea. The hanok-style architecture adds this wonderful traditional touch that feels authentic without being stuffy. Those wooden beams and paper screens create such a warm atmosphere, especially in the evening when the lighting gets all soft and golden. I found myself staying up way later than planned just because the common areas were so inviting.
What really gets me is the attention to detail – there are reading lamps positioned exactly where you need them, comfortable chairs that are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and this quiet hum of activity that’s energizing without being distracting. The staff clearly gets what they’re going for here; they’re book lovers themselves and can recommend everything from local authors to that perfect rainy-day novel. I overheard them having genuine literary discussions with guests, which is pretty refreshing compared to the usual tourist small talk. The rooms themselves are simple but thoughtfully designed, with built-in reading nooks and surprisingly good natural light. Sure, it’s a 3-star place so don’t expect marble bathrooms or turndown service, but the beds are comfortable and everything’s clean and well-maintained. Plus, there’s something wonderfully peaceful about falling asleep surrounded by books – it’s like the ultimate comfort blanket for anyone who grew up reading under the covers with a flashlight. Honestly, if you’re the type of person who travels with three books “just in case,” or if you’ve ever wished hotels had more personality and less generic corporate polish, this place will absolutely hit the spot.
Hotels near me in Seoul offer convenient access to the city center, where guests can easily walk to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Myeongdong shopping district, and authentic Korean BBQ restaurants.

Guest Reviews
This adorable Hankok is located within walking distance of the station. However, I would not recommend people who are thinking of carrying huge luggage. Normal mid to small luggage will have no issue. There are lots of shops and convini nearby. It was easy for us to get to the property as we took taken airport taxi in and out from Incheon to the property. The host is extremely responsive and very thoughtful with the arrangement. The host helped me with communicating to our taxi driver on multiple occasions as well as gave me so many good recommendations for good restaurants. The property was very warm, cute and so much more than just an accommodation. It has inspired my little nephew so much that he has said he wishes his first house to be just like this Hankok. Thank you, JJ for great hospitality. We cannot wait to stay at your property again.
