Hamory Guesthouse Dongdaemun Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hamory Guesthouse Dongdaemun, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in this part of Seoul. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots end up surprising you in the best ways. The entrance is tucked away just enough that you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t trampled yet, which is pretty rare in Dongdaemun these days.

What really struck me was how the staff actually seemed to care about getting you settled in properly – none of that rushed check-in nonsense you get at bigger chains. The woman at the front desk (I think her name was Ms. Park) took time to mark up a neighborhood map for me, pointing out which subway exits would save me the most walking and where to grab decent coffee that wouldn’t cost me a fortune. The rooms themselves are clean and functional – I mean, don’t expect luxury, but everything works and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. The air conditioning actually keeps up with Seoul’s brutal summer humidity, which honestly is half the battle won right there. I stayed on the fourth floor and barely heard any street noise, even with all the late-night activity from the nearby markets.

The location is where this place really shines though. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Dongdaemun Design Plaza – you know, that weird spaceship-looking building that lights up at night – and even closer to the traditional markets where you can hunt for fabric and random trinkets until way past midnight. But here’s the thing locals know: if you walk just two blocks north from the guesthouse, you’ll hit this little cluster of 24-hour restaurants that serve some of the best late-night Korean comfort food in the area, without the tourist markup. The subway connections are solid too – Line 2 and Line 4 are both walkable, so getting to Myeongdong or Gangnam doesn’t require any complicated transfers. I stayed here during peak cherry blossom season (which was probably a mistake budget-wise for most places), but Hamory’s rates stayed reasonable. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it delivers on what matters: clean space, helpful service, and a location that actually lets you experience Seoul like you live there, not just visit.

Seoul hotels provide guests with comfortable accommodations in South Korea’s bustling capital, known for its innovative technology, K-pop culture, and historical palaces.
