Hahoo-dang
Your Seoul Retreat
First Impressions
Walking into Hahoo-dang feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away in Seoul’s Gwangjin district. This three-star guesthouse sits on the second floor of a modest building, and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. But that’s actually part of its charm — it’s the kind of place locals would recommend to friends, not something you’d stumble across in a glossy travel magazine.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location: you’re in a real Seoul neighborhood, not some tourist bubble. Gingorang-ro is lined with small cafes, convenience stores, and those late-night Korean BBQ spots where office workers unwind after long days. The Han River is just a short walk away, which means you can actually jog or bike along the water in the morning — something most visitors to Seoul never get to experience. You know what’s really convenient? The subway connections from Gwangjin-gu get you to Gangnam or Hongdae in about 20 minutes, but you’re staying somewhere that feels authentically Korean.
The Room Experience
The room itself is compact but thoughtfully designed — I mean, this is Seoul, so space is always at a premium. What impressed me was how clean everything felt, and the bedding was surprisingly comfortable for a place in this price range. The windows actually open (not always a given in Korean accommodations), and if you’re lucky enough to get a corner room, you’ll catch glimpses of the neighborhood’s daily rhythm below. There’s no fancy minibar or elaborate amenities, but you’ll find everything you actually need for a good night’s sleep.
What Sets It Apart
The staff here genuinely care about making your stay work — they’re not just going through the motions. I’ve seen them help guests figure out subway routes and recommend hole-in-the-wall restaurants that don’t appear in guidebooks. The building might not look like much from the outside, but the attention to detail inside shows. Everything from the hallway lighting to the way they handle check-in feels personal rather than corporate. It’s the kind of place where they remember your name by the second day.
Why Guests Love It
Couples especially seem drawn to Hahoo-dang, and I get why — there’s something romantic about staying in a quiet residential area rather than a busy hotel district. You can walk to a convenience store for snacks, grab coffee from a local cafe, and feel like you’re living in Seoul rather than just visiting it. The high ratings make sense when you consider what you’re getting: a clean, comfortable base in an authentic neighborhood, run by people who actually care about hospitality. Sure, it’s not high-end, but sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you’re staying somewhere that feels real rather than polished.

Guest Reviews
