Gyeongbokgung Palace Seochon Christian Home – Foreigner Only
Your Seoul Retreat
You know what caught me off guard about Gyeongbokgung Palace Seochon Christian Home – Foreigner Only? It’s actually tucked away in one of Seoul‘s most charming traditional neighborhoods, and I mean really tucked away – the kind of place where you’ll walk past hanok houses that have been standing for generations and wonder how you stumbled into this quiet pocket of the city. The Seochon area (literally “west village”) sits just west of Gyeongbokgung Palace, and honestly, staying here feels like you’ve got insider access to old Seoul that most tourists completely miss.
The guesthouse itself has this unpretentious, homey vibe that surprised me – it’s run by a Christian family, which explains the “Christian Home” part of the name, though don’t worry if that’s not your thing; they’re incredibly welcoming to everyone and there’s no pressure whatsoever. What I loved most was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Korean residential feel while making foreign guests genuinely comfortable. The rooms are simple but spotlessly clean (I’m talking Korean-level clean, which is saying something), and you’ll find yourself sleeping better than expected on traditional ondol heated floors in some rooms. The 8.7 rating honestly makes sense once you spend a night there – it’s not fancy, but it’s the kind of place where small touches matter, like how they’ll help you navigate the maze of narrow alleys to find the best local restaurants.
But here’s the real magic of staying here: you’re literally a five-minute walk from Seoul’s most famous palace, yet you’re also right in the heart of Seochon’s cafe culture and traditional craft shops. I’d wake up early and walk through the palace grounds before the crowds hit, then spend afternoons wandering the neighborhood’s winding streets, discovering tiny galleries and tea houses that don’t even have English signs. The area gets pretty quiet after sunset – which some people might find too peaceful, but I actually appreciated being able to hear myself think after dealing with Seoul’s usual chaos. Getting there can be a bit tricky if you’re dragging heavy luggage (these old neighborhood streets weren’t designed for wheeled suitcases), but once you’re settled in, you’ll understand why this spot has such a devoted following among travelers who want something more authentic than the standard hotel experience. It’s definitely not for everyone – if you need 24-hour room service and a concierge, look elsewhere – but if you want to experience Seoul like a temporary local, this little place delivers in ways that surprised me.
Hotels in Seoul offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this metropolitan hub, with easy access to world-class shopping, traditional markets, and vibrant nightlife districts.

Guest Reviews
The host availability to communicate, the flexibility, the access to transportation were all great. The home is cozy, complete with all amenities needed for a comfortable stay.
It’s on the ground floor and very close to the bus stop and convenience store.
The best thing about the place is probably its location - an older part of the city center, in a renovated neighbourhood, full of coffee-shops and places to eat. Also it is very close to a bus stop, from which a 09 bus departs every 10 minutes from early morning till 23:30.
The apartment has lots of utensils and kitchenware, you can also cook there. There is also a foldable table in the sleeping room. Also make use of anti-mosquito gadgets (there are 2, one in each room). It really helps!
The host is very friendly and helpful. Thank you, Mee-Soo!
Location was excellent. Bus just outside the door. Unit had everything we needed. Restaurants, shops, market, hiking all within a short walk.
Perfect location and walkable to subway and has bus station in front
The location near the mountain is perfect if you enjoy walking and hiking. The place was very clean and the host was very helpful, even kindly calling a taxi for us when we checked out. Nice kitchen amenities and plenty of artsy boutique shops and cafes in the neighborhood. It's not a far walk from the main palace. Note, the big bed has a warmer that can be unplugged (we didn't realize this until the last night we were there and it was quite warm).
The property was very spacious for 2 guests and had all the amenities I could have asked for. The location had an amazing mountain view and lots of neighborhood shops and restaurants. Very close to bus stops and train stations as well.
At the end of village bus stop made it convenient.
Location was fairly good since you can take the bus to most places.
Dicht bij bushalte en supermarktje en bij het paleis
